POLL: hosting a clinic

What's on your mind?

by HoosierCoach » Fri Dec 26, 2008 8:17 am

If you were to host a clinic for your team, and could get any instructor you wanted, who would it be? (Englishbey, Hillhouse, Finch, Mendoza, Ssarge,Kobata...)

Finch. She really relates to the little girls.

Mendoza is awesome. The girls relate well to her, she teaches well and she is inspirational.

Bustos - definitely a plus with everyone who attends - everyone loves her.
(I was going to say a "hit", but that just seemed to corny...)
Being from NorCal, what do I know anyway???

You have to be joking about:
1.Englishbey,The backyard rotational guru with his backyard hitting videos, with his gimmics and toys to swing with that will make you swing like a pro.He reminds me of the guy that invented the carburetors that gets 120 miles to the gallon,But the govt. bought him out to silence him
The same people that believe his swing works believe in ufos and the 120mpg carburetors.
2.Sarge writes well (makes batting sound like rocket science)but that does not have anything to do with teaching your DD to swing and hit a softball.Remember Keep It Simple Stupid (KISS).
I would not let these two get anywhere near my DD swing.

I would think this question would depend on what you're looking for. I've been to many clinics with many speakers/presenters. For fielding, there's nobody better than Kobata. Hitting would depend on your beliefs. I've seen Englishbey and thought his presentation was horrible. The content got lost in it. For pitching, it depends. Lets face it, most of the pitching clinics hosted by Finch, Fernandez, Smith etc. are just photo and autograph opportunities for kids. At the NFCA conventions, I've heard them all. And at those places, kids are not there and not going 'awe' over Finch, Osterman, etc. just being next to them. Hillhouse's presentation was amazing at the Best of West clinic last year in Seattle. Then to SEE him do it, instead of most male coaches who cannot pitch made it even more incredible (he does a live demo too). I've since taken my DD to see him every time he's been anywhere near my home in Idaho.

I know Hillhouse and Kobata work together a lot, you should contact them and kill 2 birds with one stone. You will NOT be disappointed.
