what could a kid expect to receive, in terms of dollar amount, from a Dll school and /or DIII that really wanted her to come and play. Are DII school's permitted to give full rides...?

I am not sure about D2 but I believe it is the same as the D3 that my DD is playing ... there is a simple formula that you can use to determine how much she will receive ... If you take her age and divide it by itself and assign that value equal to "A" ... then take the amount of years that she has played and divide it by itself and assign that value equal to "B" ... then take all the money that you have spent on equiptment, lessons, motels and travel etc., divide that by itself and assign that value equal to "C" ... now ( A+B ) x ( C ) -2 = ( amount of scholarship )

IF a DII school is fully funded, they have 6 or 7 scholarships for the team. Usually they as DI also is see how much financial $ you could get and then add athletic $. Some university will top out at 75% others will do 100%. Our local DI gives what is known as the local full ride where the school pays for everything but room and board and the player lives at home. Coach can spread one scholarship out over 5 or 6 kids.

according to that formula.....we could skip the entire softball ball endeavor and just spend the money on an Ivy League education...!lol! But what fun would that be...!

If dd is a D2/D3 quality player, check out NAIA schools. They can give athletic money (not a lot) as well as academic money. Depending on the school there can be some good softball. The school my kid is going to is very highly regarded academically.

My DD was fortunate enough to get an offer from the school she wanted to go to (NAIA). $11,500 in academic/athletic money. The athletic money is up to the coach. The academic money is based on her ACT score. About 2/3 of her money is academic.

She also had D2 and minor D1 interest. But really wanted to go to the school that is signing her. The D2 coach was very interested as she qualified for a full academic ride, he liked her and didn't have to use any of his money on her. But she didn't want to go :(

The moral of the story, get the grades. With the grades, she will find a place to play. Given two similar players, the coach is going to take the one that has the best chance of being eligibel in the spring.

Exactly. You have all kinds of options with the grades. I have a catcher who is competing with my centerfielder for 1st in their class.

In addition to the above statements:

- DII's are permitted 7.5 scholarships. They can give full rides if they choose or spread that 7.5 out (assuming their fully funded).

- DIII's have no athletic $, just as Spaz said

-NAIA has WAY more lenient recruiting and scholarship policies. It is up to the coach (more likely, the AD) how much they spend on scholarships.

It is impossible to attach a dollar amount to a division. Not that this is factual in any way, but a general idea would be to look at their rankings in their respective divisions. It isn't likely that the worst team in the conference for 10 straight years will be fully funded (unless it's private or Ivy). For example, in Div I you would expect a UF, UT, or UCLA to be fully funded. Maybe not the case with schools like Binghamton, Rhode Island, or Fairleigh Dickinson (who??). Same Division, same amount of scholarships permitted, but way different athletic budgets.

Something else to think about since full rides are rare, is the size of the roster. Spreading 12 around (DI) to 18 players means different $ than spreading to a roster of 26.
