How fast is fast...(from home to first..)

I've always heard that any time under 3 seconds was respectable when running from home to first base. What are legitimate collegiate prospects times, and exactly how do they measure it..?

They usually try to time it from touch of ball to step on first. Yes, anything under 3 seconds is respectable, but most coaches are realling looking for 2.8 and faster, you get a girl under 2.8 and you can bet there will be many coaches following her around. I have heard claims that
Watley is, or was in the 2.4 to 2.5 range in her prime.

Female U.S. citizens were eligible, and once all applications were reviewed by the Women’s National Team Selection Committee,
potential team members were invited to participate in the Preliminary Olympic Trials held in September 1998.

Minimum requirements are outlined below.

Infielders / Outfielders
Players must meet these five requirements:

Bat speed of 50 mph minimum
Throwing speed of 55 mph minimum
Run from home to first base in 2.95 seconds maximum
Run from home to home in 12.50 second maximum
Do 30 push-ups

Yea, I bet there has to be, because Bustos probably takes 12.5 sec from home to 1st, but when she hits it out, she can take all the time she needs.

I am amazed at how fast Bustos is. And if Nueveman is motoring towards me, I am going to back off.

There are an awful lot of girls out there with no foot speed. My DD was 3.25 down the line and that was considered speedy. Of course, there were one or two "rabbits", but 3.25 was more than acceptable.

I take out the egg timer for the Zacklies ... I think with bigger gals, it depends on where they are carrying the weight as to if they can flat-out boogie or not ... mine, obviously carry it in the wrong place as compared to others ...
