who wants to watch my DD pitch?

What's on your mind?

by Judd » Fri Feb 01, 2008 10:23 am

Probably nobody. You certainly wont be seeing ASA fChampionship pitching, LOL. But hey its my DD and she can pitch better than 90% of the 11 y/o's out there (I mean all the 11 y/o, nut just the pitchers) :D

This was taken the other day after someone asked if I had a video. Its not the greatest angle but I dont have a tripod. To be honest this was a bad practice for her. I think she was so focused on throwing harder she forgot all her mechanics. The day before she was pretty accurate and was doing well with her change up. Its hard for ME on the bucket to watch everything. I try to focus on her glove staying in front of her and watch her throwing hand as it comes back, and then forward into the windmill. She has a habit of swinging her glove way to the side and not keeping her throwing arm straight so I try to watch that. Watching the video I realize she is not dragging properly and her foot is coming up.

Anyway here it is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsatGeXAIWI

Give me your opinions. She does go back next week for lessons

cute kid.
the important thing is she is practicing on her own away from regular practice, putting in extra work.
she has a little bit of a replant, but looks like she has decent speed.
good luck and hope she keeps it up.
Deserve's got nothin' to do with it.

she plays 12U and doesnt break 40 so speed is an issue. Most here are throwing 48-53 average, some even higher.

Thanks for watching

regarding claims of mph from parents:
claims of kids throwing 50 or 60mph and the actual speeds that those kids throw are kind of like the gross amount vs the net amount after taxes on a payroll check...

You really do have to take claims of pitchers speed with a grain of salt. I took my radar gun to a HS game last year just to clock a couple highly touted pitchers. The varsity pitcher throwing "63" was really throwing 55. The JV pitcher throwing "in excess of 50" was really throwing 38. BTW my gun is accurate, I check it against other guns often to make sure.

JV in high school throwing 38?

Wow.

My DD turns 13 next week, has been taking lessons for about 14 months, and is around the 46-48 mph mark consistently, according to both her coach's radar gun and his new toy, the revfire , which from one practice I strongly recommend, btw.

I know what you mean by taking reported speeds with a grain of salt though...one of my DD's friend's older sister is a freshman this year, and thought she was in mid to high 50's. She got upset and started crying when her speed was reading around 50-52 rather than what she thought.
Proud fastpitch, baseball, volleyball, soccer, basketball, etc. Dad :)

well I have a Bushnell and have clocked her fastest pitch at 37. I have clocked other pitchers at 48-53 at several tournaments, some even faster with the same gun.

But I have had parents tell me there DD threw XX, just to find out the radar said something else.

Enough of that. How about the cute kid in the video?

Kid is cute and my favorite part was at the very beginning when she is tossing the ball in the air and misses it. Poof, she is gone. Then the big grey butt comes out and blocks her for a minute and then we get to see her again.

I think it is great to see her having fun and pitching. Speed will come and so will everything else if she sticks with it and gets a pitching coach.
