Foul Language by players

What's on your mind?

by joemcq51 » Mon Nov 03, 2014 4:13 pm

Attending the D9 Showcase this weekend, I am sitting in the bleachers trying to watch a good game. There are college coaches walking around everywhere. I was fortunate enough to be sitting in front of a team of girls that were talking about a variety of different topics, rather loudly. A couple of the players were using extremely crude language. At first, I wasn't sure I heard them correctly. After just a few minutes, it became obvious that they were not shy using curse words that would make a grown man shake his head. I am pretty good about understanding that teenage girls will say things without thinking about what they are saying. After a few minutes, I had enough and walked away and watched the game from somewhere else. This was a pretty well known team from the NE. If I was a college coach, I would have to rethink any kids from this team. Maybe I am over reacting and I don't know why. The girls were very graphic on various topics from sexual orientation of other girls to various sexual acts that girl XYZ was well practiced at. Do teams not cover etiquette with their players? Am I just old and out of touch? This can't be the norm for kids these days.

Unless you are going to carry a team to the WCWS it doesn't take much to cause a coach to scratch you off the list. Clueless to not be ON from the time you get out of the car till they leave the park to go home.

Some parts of the US, use profanity a little ...(OK..a LOT)more than most...wife had to explain to a Dr from the NE that migrated South , that telling folks that their F'ing test results were good, was NOT good around here...He used it without thinking...plus numerous other words...He didnt realize he was doing it...it was completely normal to him...

Some coaches are OK with poddy mouths...(that's just my opinion...I don't curse around ladies nor children...and don't go hard core NCO unless Im with men I know well...sorta like breaking wind...not gonna do that around just anyone neither  :D )
If Mom and Dad are ok with cussing like a Sailor...its their kid...But I dont have to sit there and listen...had a young boy this weekend think playing dodgeball in the stands was a good idea...about the 4th time he hit me with ball...despite my wishes of dissecting the ball...I held the ball and told him..."I think you need to find a better place to play ball"....I think his mummy and Daddy who were pulling very loudly for the opposing team while sitting contently on OUR side of the field...got the clue also...there was only a gozzilion sq feet of open grass to play on, not in the stands btw...we beat'em easily also ;)

Some coaches look for other attributes that some aren't...
And absolutely...I do think most college coaches would be 'turned off' by that...Besides being stewards for their sport...who wants young ladies who sound like WWII Navy vets...(or antique Army NCO's:)
especially in the stands...I know I would be cautious of a Coach that used extreme profanity all the time...
I was very pleased when I saw that my kids future Coach asked the blessing at our meals and has certain set rules that aren't in the interest of 'party animals'...he shares some of the values and morals that we do...BUT...my values and morals aren't a requirement of everyone...but keep in mind...those rights end where they conflict with mine...and vice versa...
I know how he'd feel about sitting beside a f-bomb contest...
Playing Devils advocate...How interested in a school would a kid, or a parent be if a Coach stood up in the stands and yelled?..."Did you see that M9*7^%%%%6& B(*&^ catch that F)*&^%$# ball....shes F-GD stud...I got to sign her F-bomb a-word....What would you think of that school...wonder what the alumni and Ad would have to say?... :o

but thats just my .02... 8-)

I would love to know the feelings of a collegiate coach on here...

It wasn''t on my field, but I would like to know what coaches (travel and college) and parents thought about one high-profile coach who wasn't happy with a player's particular base-running, and grabbed the player's face mask and shake well before serving.

Tony,
Ive had a football coach who'd grab you by the mask (yes we had helmets AND masks) and sometimes literally drag us around on the ground...usually 2 at a time...He was an effective coach, but was a giant a-word...a legend in his own mind though...an alcoholic who passed away early and I think they had to rent pall bearers...

Was it a 'Hey, look at me grab and shake with a smile'? or more angry thing?
Sadly, it was probably the latter...and possibly his kid...who will happily roll his butt in the nursing home...the cheapest one she can find...'Unhappy Acres'...
Sadly, I'm seeing an ever growing intensity of 'getting my kid recruited'...Buddy's kid, who was at Disney and on Monday is down in the dumps, his kid is a Soph, just getting started in a realistic travel organization, after the tourney, her 1st big showcase type...and he thinks she has lost her chance already...That's to much pressure on what..a 14yr old?...

Just another sign of the times we live in. Watch an episode of just about anything on MTV, the Kardashians and/or a bunch of other stuff to see what "enlightened" society thinks is permissible these days. They try and call it a free speech issue. Really just a breakdown in civility. The jenie's out of the bottle. Just about anything seems to go these days.

A few foul-mouthed parents (kids raising kids) and coaches set the tone for what is viewed as acceptable in these kids eyes. They are are only a few but that's all it takes. Most kids are raised well. It's mostly a matter of how much the rest of us are willing to put up with.

Primetime TV has turned into Porn time. Isn't Progressivism great? Gee, I wonder where these kids get it?

Kids emulate things they see and that their 'age' sees as in style...which TV, movies etc now are ran by people who think they're 'enlightened' vs just actors or singers....and all of them seem to have an agenda, be it social or political... .then they join the 27 Club when they see they're not...and the media glorifies their suicide...Whitney Houston, outrageously talented, wealth and fame...flag flown at half staff when she dies as a crack head...wait...no...Cocaine...'Crack is whack"

...whats the line, tell a lie enough, it becomes the truth...so showing trash like that says well...that must be normal and Ok
Current brainwashing...or numbing has said, being ignorant, uneducated , even at the Elementary / HS level, on permanent Govt dependency, umpteen illegitimate kids, living in govt projects, starring in a Gangland episode is the 'new norm'...so, say it enough it must be true...
Oh...and listen to a teenagers music now...the language they use...that's not music and I don't mean just not MY type music...

I'm no choir boy, nor a prude but compared to stuff on TV...I must be...

Crap like that is why I will never have HBO in my house again...nor as its known Skinemax...

ABC aired “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” and check out what they aired at 8:59, before parents could grab the remote.
