Bri Matthews Memorial Gathering - Friday, March 5th

by dhay » Mon Mar 01, 2010 10:54 pm

A Memorial Gathering will be held for Bri Matthews, Mater Dei High School Softball Pitcher

When: Friday, March 5, 2010
Where: Huntington Beach Sports Complex - Field #4
18100 Golden West St.
Huntington Beach, Ca. 92648
Time: 3:15pm

The City of Huntington Beach has graciously allowed the softball community to hold the Memorial for Bri Matthews at their complex. Bri's family felt that this was the best place to honor Bri, since this is where she played many, many games.

This is not a religious service. Rather, it will be a gathering of her family, friends, classmates, and anyone from inside or outside the softball community to remember this very special athlete and person. The Matthews family desires that the gathering be open to anyone who wants to convey a final goodbye to Bri.

Her family asks that High School players attending this Memorial, wear their complete High School uniform. If you are not in High School, then they ask that you wear your travelball uniform. The family thought that this would be a great tribute to Bri, to have all of her fellow players attend in full uniform. In the event of cool weather, a school jacket would also be appropriate.

The memorial will actually be held on the softball field. The City of HB will drag and chalk the field, install the bases and the outfield fence. There will be a stage and microphone set up behind 2nd base and chairs will be placed in the outfield.

If anyone would like to bring cookies or cupcakes it would be appreciated.---there will be a few tables set up for any donated desserts.

dhay, thank you for posting this in our region and keeping us informed....

In the Arizona Softball community, Bri's passing became known very quickly throughout the state and to those of us in the softball world.

Arizona travel teams love to keep track of the Southern California teams and with our obvious love for ASU and U of A softball we followed the news with great sorrow.

Our thoughts and prayers go to Bri's family and all those in the Southern California Softball Community while dealing with this tragic loss.....
