And to the other situation, where the pitcher is practicing her windmill and popping the ball in the glove? Is it OK to steal?

Try it and let us know how it turns out. :D

Steal. The last time I saw that happen they stole all the way to 3rd because everyone was so busy yelling and whining at me they left the runner alone.

Wade,

Isn't it customary(proper mechanic) for the umpire to call time after the pitcher returns to the circle with the ball, and baserunners return to their bases? If so how( and when ) does putting the ball between your legs to fix your hair negate the "time" call of the umpire? Or are we talking about pitchers who do this while the play is still live (i.e. not waiting a few seconds for blue to call time)

Is it only customary to call time between batters, not between pitches on a single batter?

I've seen plenty of "no-pitch" calls from umpires when they were the last ones ready to go, but time was never called. That kind of implies to me that "time" has been called(even if it wasn't verbalized) and is in effect until the umpire gives indication they are ready for the next pitch.

No, if they did, there would be no need for the LBR. As much as I would love to see this happen and have the LBR sent to the showers (it is not necessary any longer, never really was), ain't happenin'. Too many "traditionalist" (even though this is not a traditional rule) insist that this is a "live" ball game though no one can give me a good reason why it must be so.
