Why would it fall on a coach to handle someone who heppens to be sitting in their stands? What if the problem party is not associated with their team? Other than citing Rule 10, which would work for me BTW, where does the rules book support requiring a coach to police the stands?
NFHS speaking: Rule 5-2-1-C Suspension of Play when a player, bench personnel or spectator is ordered from the field of play ...
Rule 10-5 The umpires right to disqualify players or remove nonplayers for objecting to decisions or for unsporting conduct is absolute
Rule 10-2 The umpire has final authority to forfeit a game ...
Rule 10-3-e ... call game if conditions become unfit for play
Rule 10-3-g ... make final decision on points not covered by the rules
Rule 10-3-h .... forfeit game for prescribed infractions by spectators ....
I don't think it says anywhere that it falls to the Coach, but we are told to suspend play, have the Home Team Coach find the AD or whoever his representitive is to take care of the problem, if they don't take care of the problem then it is a forfeit ... in HS when there is a clear Home Team/ Visting Team ... Home Field ... I think it does fall to school personnel to provide a safe environment for the student athletes to participate in a school sponsored event ... If the Home Team can not provide a safe environment through school personnel/police, then they lose ... Most of our HS games in VA have police security present ... Suppose it is a visiting parent causing the problem ... Blue talks to Home Coach, the Home Coach says to the AD to solve it, they don't... AD finds the Police, they do ... re-start game ...
