While the OP may or may not be considered a rant, the situations in it seem to be a little far-fetched and provocative. If these are descriptions of actual events, I'm mildly surprised, but not shocked. I am not, nor will ever be, an apologist for poor umpiring. Nor will I blindly defend ASA officiating. The conduct and philosophy of its leadership are at the core of the underlying problems that GSB's remarks address. I have worked hard to reach whatever level I'm at and owe absolutely nothing to ASA or any other organization in general. Some on here may consider this heresy, but it is what it is.
Having said that, I would invite all "arm chair umpires" to strap on the gear and step out here and get some of this. Some will be successful, some not, but I guarantee they will have a new appreciation for what we do.
