So, how many years did you umpire baseball?

Zero.S.B. is the game.

So, you have no experience with baseball, yet choose to belittle someone as "chicken" for not umpiring baseball.

Hmmmm........so, what does your shrink have to say about this complex of yours?

Been involved with softball at all levels for the past 12/13 years or so......thought I had seen it all as far as out of control parents/coaches go.

That was until I started coaching my sone baseball teams. He played U9 TB this past summer and fall. Going in, I wasn't convinced he was ready for it.

Turns out I was wrong.....he was ready....I wasn't!

Holy crap, but some people are way too emotionally involved in youth baseball.

No doubt that softball is every bit as legitimate as baseball......but when it comes to the parents and coaches.....it aint even close.

It depends.. little league is full of lamers who dont have a clue - similar to low level softball. You couldnt drag me onto a LL field anymore .. When I am doing American Legion, its similar to TB. The players are obviously much different.
In addition to American Legion 18U I also do Mens FP so I get my big babies.

But dont tell SB Junkie.. I like him/her/it thinking I only work the wimpy softball he/she/it is accustomed to seeing. We'll keep it our secret there is actually high level high speed softball in places.

Just a side note to that ... One of the Blues in my class and clinics who does NHFS & Rec ... says that you hear more crap in one Rec game than you will hear in 10 HS games ...

Our ASA UIC refers to U8/U10 travel ball as the perfect storm. Umpires don't like working the games because your combining low level of play with the added benefit of the least knowledgable players/parents/coaches so you have more blow ups involving parents/coaches who don't know the rules. It doesn't help that due to the pecking order this is where most umpires cut their teeth so they are rookies as well.

High School games are usually played earlier than most parents can attend due to work so fewer beserk parents means fewer fan issues.
