So the other day, we had a HS game going and the craziest thing happened;

No runners on, batter grounds to 3rd.
3rd throws to first and overthrows
Ball heads off toward the foul pole...

Runner comes all the way around and somewhere btwn the coach's box and the plate, she brushes past the umpire.

Ball arrives at the plate a good 3-4 steps before the runner.
Catcher awaits the runner and clearly tagged the runner who slid in but never even made it to the plate...

Ready?


Here it comes...


The umpire called SAFE!


Why?


He said the runner was interfered with by himself and he was protecting her to the plate!!!
Coach came out and was amazingly calm as she asked "what just happened here, because I'm not understanding..."

He replied that he had gotten in the way of the runner and as a result, he was ruling it as interference and she was protected!

Remember that comedian who said stupid people should have a sign? I propose bad umpires must wear a sigh. If this guy had a sign, everyone would have been like, Oh OK you're a bad Ump you have a sign. No wonder you called it that way"! Someone could make a fortune selling "Bad Ump" signs!
