3-2 count. runner on first. no outs. batter swings at ball in the dirt, missing it, for strike three. Ball bounce off catcher and ball hits the batters bat on her follow thru. Offical ruled dead ball, made runner at first return to first and allowed batter to hit again.

Please note exception nbr 3.

ASA 7-6-K A batter is out when the batter hits a fair ball with the bat a second time in fair territory. EFFECT - Section 6D-K: the ball is dead and runner(s) must return to the base occupied at the time of the pitch.
EXCEPTION:
3. When contact is made on the follow through after missing the pitch on the initial swing. EFFECT: The ball is dead, and a strike is called.

Batter runner is out when the batter runner interferes with a dropped third strike.

Sorry, brain still not fully functioning after long weekend.

With runner on 1st and no outs, it is a dead ball, batter is out.

if a ball is bunted and the bat hits the ball as it is dropped it is an out?

How is B not out on strike 3?

Yes. Dead Ball, B out, return runners to bases at time of pitch.

so is the correct call is batter out, dead ball, and runner returns to 1st base? The ball was only hit one time, on the follow thru for the first contact and it rolled into foul territory. I though the call was 1/2 correct, it being a dead ball. Didnt undertand why batter got to hit again....
