ASA - R1 on 1B. Batter hits a hard ground ball to F4, who starts the 4-6-3 DP. F6 bobbles the ball & has to stop on 2B as she regains control. R1 is running a straight line from 1B to 2B. F6 then steps to the OF side of the bag to clear the baserunner and then throws wide of 1st. (The ball was scorched and the batter is slow, so a good throw would have had her at 1B without question even with the bobble). There was no contact and R1 did not change direction or put her hands up or do anything other than run normally. The BU calls the batter out saying R1 intentionally interfered with the throw from F6 by not sliding. Good call?

Nope.

Not only is it not a good call, but the umpire's explanation has now made it a protestable call.

There is no requirement in the rules for a runner to slide in this situation. If the umpire is saying there is, then s/he is not interpreting the rule correctly and the call is subject to protest.
