What's the call

ASA

B1 takes off for second, is called safe by BU but PU sends runner back and calls Interference (?) on himself saying he hindered the catcher's throw. Pitch was legal, called strike, B1 retuned to 1st.

Is there such a thing as Umpire interference?

yep..
and thats only way an umpire int can happen.

And that is what happens with umpire int.

If runner is safe, runner is returned.

Thanks....and I, of course, should have "said" R1, not B1

It should be noted that the ump desrves credit for making the right call. Not all umpires will admit the mistake of interfering!
