CR's

Rule question? Get it answered here.

While in 10's tournaments and WN, we were allowed to use subs (previously in the game), as CR's as they were the only players no longer in the line-up. However, just recently informed that once a player leaves a game they cannot be used as a "CR". Now playing 12's w/ASA rules. Is this now being ruled correctly? Thanks -

Per ASA rules, a CR can only be a player who has not yet participated in the game. Once a CR has been used for either the pitcher or catcher, they are locked into running for that position. In other words, if Suzie #12 CR runs for the pitcher in the 3rd inning, she cannot run for the catcher in the 4th, she can only run for the pitcher. Once a player has been used in the game, other than as a CR, they can no longer be used as a CR.

In our area, for local tournaments, rules are typically modified to allow substitution and courtesy runners. This allows coaches to get more players involved in the game.

They only use the ASA rulebook straight up for championship play.

That is correct, for champiuonship play.
However as noted many local tournaments and rec leagues modify that rule.
