Looking for some help on this call.

Runner on 1st, 1st base playing 5-6 feet in front of bag. Batter hits ball going foul about 10 ft behind bag. Runner goes back to 1st and 1st base going backwards to try to make play runs into runner standing on first. Umpire rules runner out for interference with the fielder. Is this correct?

Speaking ASA.

Depends. The runner is not required to abandon a base to allow the defense to make a play. However, if the umpire believed the runner did more than just stand there (step into the fielder, intentionally move in the runner's path, etc.) s/he could rule the runner out for INT.
