Gorilla Gold

Rule question? Get it answered here.

It is my understanding that ASA will now allow the pitcher to use Gorilla Gold while on the field. Anyone know if this is true or not? All age groups? Thanks

From ASA 2009 Playing Rule Changes:

Rule 6 Section 6 A Fast Pitch: …. an Approved manufactured drying agent that
is included on the list published by the ASA, may be used by the pitcher. The
Resin must be left on the ground and the approved drying agent in the pitcher’s
pocket. Effect: … If any other substance is found in the pitcher’s pocket the
pitcher shall be ejected.

Comment: Some drying agents are resin and need to submitted to ASA for
approval before they can be used by the pitcher. Currently only Gorilla Gold is
approved.
Don't worry about tomorrow. You did that yesterday.

Gorilla Gold appears to be beeswax impregnated cheese cloth. Like the tack cloth that some painters use. It is a great grip enhancer, especially useful in damp conditions. Has been legal for use in ISC games. Never had an ASA problem using it in the dugout but, on the field use has been a different story.

Yes its legal, and after much back and forth! I for one am very glad ASA finally ruled on this stuff. For awhile it was legal or illegal depending on who you asked, on which given day, for which age group, and for what type of play. I've seen it change mid game!

This, or any similar product, was never legal in ASA. Didn't mean some did not turn a blind eye to it, but that doesn't make it legal.
