A left handed batter going through batters box and without swinging, gets hit by pitch while both feet are out of the box and on the infield. What is the call? Dead ball? Base given? Ball, Dead ball strike?
Please advise and if you can, post the rule and page.
Any time a batter is hit by a pitched ball, the ball is dead.
If the ball was in the strike zone when it hit the batter, it's a strike.
If the ball was not in the strike zone and the batter attempted to avoid the ball, award first base.
If the ball was not in the strike zone and the batter did not attempt to avoid the ball, it's a ball on the batter and the at bat continues. If ball 4, award first base.
The ASA rule is 8-1-F on age 84 of of the 2013 book.
