batters swing the bat all the time..each time is not a strike (unfortunately). The key to a swing is did she attempt to hit the pitch?
There must be 1) a pitch to swing at and an 2) attempt as judge by the umpire for a swing (ie attempt to hit the ball) to be a strike... no different than a check swing.
