Well, you be "just sayin' " isn't correct. :o The force is from a base, not to a base.

A BR is never forced to run. They can stand in that box as long as they please up until s/he is retired or the ball becomes dead and ware awarded base(s).

Of course, the BR has a better chance of becoming a runner, but are never forced to advance to 1B.

Rule book definitions are our friends. Can you quote one that defines a force play as including the batter becoming a batter-runner, other than to force a runner to advance?

To expand on original post.
If R1 got back to 1B before the base was tagged by F3.
F3 could still get a double play by tagging R1, even though R1 is standing on 1B, then stepping on 1B. Correct?
If I understand this correctly, R1 can no longer be safe on a base she was forced from.
Unless the force is removed by the preceding runner being retired.

No, a succeeding runner or batter-runner being retired removes the force.

No, a succeeding runner or batter-runner being retired removes the force.

Please clarify your "No." Was it in response to playball13's question about getting the double play or was it just in correcting him saying preceding instead of succeeding or trailing?
