3rd strike foul tip

My DD asked me this question the other day and I did not know the ruling. If she is stealing and it is a 3rd strike foul tip which is caught by the catcher is it considered a strike or a foul/catch? Does she have to return to the bag or is she free to steal?

Foul tip - ball sharply and directly to the catcher which is caught - live ball. She may advance at her own risk.
