Does the run count?

Rule question? Get it answered here.

by Gooburr » Tue Jun 30, 2009 11:51 am

Question came up and got several different answers from different coaches etc. Need some help here:

Winning run on third...2 outs..batter strikes out - ball past catcher...batter just stands there (ahhhhhhh) runner on third comes home...catcher grabs ball and tags batter (still standing there despite everyone yelling run!!!!!) batter called out

Does the run score?

Can you elaborate as to Nope? Sounds like the run crossed before the 3rd out was officially recorded by the tag? Just trying to understand. thks.

You actually got different answers from coaches? Make sure to take mental note, and not have DD play for them in the future. That is as basic as it comes. Did you ask the first base coaches from 8u rec. leagues?

This isn't a timing play where it matters when the runner crosses the plate. As long as the batter/runner is out(3rd out) before safely reaching 1B then the run does not score regardless of the timing.

The orginal call was run scores game over. Later (an hour or so) after arguing and discussing there was discussion that the run should not have scored. The out was not a "force" - they could have thrown down to 1st and recorded the 3rd out. So run should not have scored??

This is my understanding as well.....She would have to successfully reach first base...Then the run counts....So, like I said....Nope!
