Am I misunderstanding the format of the rule book, it seems to me from reading the rules that umpinva posted (which is the same rule book that I was reading) that the only time when the runner(s) is asked to return to the last base legally touched at the time of the interference is:

H. When the batter-runner steps back toward home plate to avoid or delay a
tag by a fielder.
EFFECT - Section 2 D-H: The ball is dead and runner(s) must return to the
last base legally touched at the time of the interference.

The only other situation that had a different "EFFECT" was:
G. When the batter-runner interferes with a play at home plate in an attempt to
prevent an out at home plate.
EFFECT: The runner is also out.

The rest of the situations had no "EFFECT" written down so I am assuming that the batter-runner is out with no "EFFECT" to the runners.

Please let me know if I am misinterpreting the format.

In ALL cases of interference, runners may not advance past the base last touched at the time of the interference. To the best of my knowledge, this is true for all codes.

Thanks for the clarification wadeintothem. I didn't see the note Section 2 D-H. So, definitely the runners have to return to their base. Thanks again.

We came to no agreement, I stated the rule. The OP now understands the rule.

Now that's an umpire's statement if I've ever heard one.

Seriously though, I read The Umpire's Corner with great interest, and thank all of you who pitch in to clarify these rules questions, because things get a little curious out on the field at times and it's nice to know what's happening. :D
Don't worry about tomorrow. You did that yesterday.
