I'm the Manager of West Coast Voodoo 12u and for the most part I'm and easy going laid back type of guy. I wasn't going to respond but I feel that it's my duty and responsibility to do so. At this point we're an organization that consists of one team and we've been in existence for a little over a year and a half. Last year we attended the Triple Crown World Series and participated in "B" Division. We did well for a team that had been together for only 6 months (finished 9th). When we returned from Utah we had to rebuild.
We lost 4 quality players due to age and others that moved to what I would consider top notch "A" quality teams (Jynx, Bomb Squad 96 and Raiders). We returned 4 player's from our team that went to Utah. At the begging of this season that left us with a total of 4 players with Travel Ball experience and 8 players who had rec/All Star experience. We struggled early and often from January through April.
Yes we've played many of the "Big Dogs" Jynx, Batbusters,CA Rebels, Corona Angeles, AA's, Cal Thunder96, Raiders, Revenge96 and San Diego Legacy to name a few. Did we beat any of these teams, yes a few. However we lost many more than we won. Our young ladies took their lumps and I'm proud to say they kept their heads held high, continued to compete and never gave up. They gave 110% every pitch of every game. Playing these teams, and as someone mentioned in an earlier post, picking up another pitcher(to go with the quality pitcher we have) with in the last month has made us better.
We qualified for TCS World Series by participating in three TCS Tournaments. Prior to us winning the 14u Mirage Elite AFA Qualifier this past weekend, the best we had placed in any Tournament was second. Are we playing better now, hell yes we are . Are we an "A" team that can consistently compete and beat the "Big Dogs" not just yet. Are we close, Yes.
I appreciate those who think of Voodoo as an "A" team. I think it say's a lot about the pride, determination and effort that our young ladies display on and off the field, in the classroom and in life in general.
