On the Sorcerer website, it shows Phil is still looking for 6 players in this weekends tryout. What happened to all of the players he brought on in the fall???

I believe he has all the girls he "brought on" in the fall, the problem is I have heard that there is a possibility he has lost nearly all the returning girls from last years team.

Very sad, that team had a shot to be really good, to bad they could not hold that thing together....oh well.

According to Hot Shots website, both Decker and Robben have both joined Moore with the Arizona Hot Shots

Why would these players move that far? I think for some, that's probably a 9 or 10 hour road trip. Good grief that would be expensive. Why move from the team that helped with that scholarship? Why AZ, why not their home state? Are they staying away from SoCal because of the Gold qualifying?

Not looking to trash talk these young ladies, just real curious questions from someone who doesn't get it.

Response: No matter where the team is from, i.e., Arizona or NorCal, they are all going to pretty much the same showcases or qualifiers. Practice time with the team will probably be very limited, but that is between the coaches and the players. One of the players mentioned lives in Nevada, so she is already 4 hours away from where Sorcerer practices.

There could be many reasons why players leave teams. Playing time, coaching, perceived opportunity to be on a better team, perhaps expenses are less or entirely paid for by the new team, etc. Whatever the reason, it was enough to overcome any positive feeling toward the old team.

It does happen from even farther distances. There is a pitcher from Maryland on a San Diego Gold team.

Great post Flash, and your are exactly right, players move for a variety of different reasons, and not being on the inner workings of this move I have no idea why these players chose to leave Sorcerer and play for a team in Arizona.

But Flash is right, these kids cant play until the summer any way due to high school ball coming up pretty soon. Once summer actually gets here they probably only have to make a few practices for the qualifier, and nationals any how, so it can be done. The kids fly down mid week stay with a parent on the team, practice, and then fly back home on Sunday or Monday.

I think that this is where the issues are.

I don't think the two infielders were strong enough defensively to keep getting playing time, they are good hitters but, Sorcerer had better defenders that were also good hitters. Finding a top pitcher is always challenging but, somewhere Phil will find a replacement or an upgrade.

Expenses are a big issue with players once they gain their scholorship offers; parents are often looking for a free ride or at least a cheaper ride in Gold.

One other think AZ is not in Region 14, a decidedly much easier path to Gold Nationals.

Again, having watcher Nor Cal softball for quite some time, it looks like more business as usual for Sorcerer. I think they'll be ready come June.

WAIT! Are you saying that Mumma cut 3 pac ten bound players because there are better players coming in? Sounds like a crock. Something happened! Those players were part of the core of that team for several years. All came up from younger teams. As far as I have heard all very close to Phil. Give it up coach! Because it was not their play.

I didn't say better coming in, I said had better defenders...they are currently on his roster. Possibly better chemistry/defense will develop when you play the better defenders. I know it has already been pointed out that Sorcerer, in spite of all their Pac 10 players, did not play the best defense in OK last year.
