14u top teams this season

by Schmick » Mon Mar 25, 2019 2:49 pm

Other than the OC Batbusters Campbell team, Firecrackers SD Brashear, Ohana Tigers Quarles/Sanchez and the Explosion Denaio/Alaan team it looked like all of the top 2023 teams in So Cal were in Elsinore over the weekend.

Top 10 2023 teams in So Cal (in no particular order) in my estimate would be

Corona Angels Ortega
Mercado Athletics Hovermale
Mercado Athletics Tidd
Firecrackers SD Brashear 2023
Firecrackers Holcomb/Knight
Firecrackers Brashear 2023
Ohana Tigers Quarles/Sanchez
So Cal Athletics Medina/Briggs
Explosion Denaio/Alaan
OC Batbusters Campbell (Stith?)

If you have other teams worthy of mention, bring them up

Mercado Hovermale beat Mercado Tidd 1-0 in the championship of the TCS Aprils Finest Tournament, the last tournament before the class of 2022 girls return.

We'll see how everyone looks with Play for Hope, Zoom in to June and Surf City Showcase as it gets closer and closer to seasons end

They didn't play each other for the championship. TCS has to put a winner so they just put down 1-0. They co-champ the tourney.

Pretty impressive 14U teams playing in Elsinore this last weekend. 7 of the top 20 or so 14U teams in So Cal were there to beat on each other. Batbusters co-hosted the TCS event and had 3 of the 7 teams from the South with BB Flores, BB Shockey and BB Campbell/Stith. Also there were Mercado Athletics Greg, Firecrackers Brashear 2022, Corona Angels Tyson and So Cal Athletics Medina Briggs. Everyone played 4 games, the majority went 2-2 while a couple went 3-1 and a couple went 1-3.

Another TCS 7 inning series tourney this weekend. These are invite only tournaments and are usually a good place to see all of the best teams around go at it.

Are you with a BB team? Just wondering why you insist on putting one of their teams, in particular, in the "top so cal teams," when they simply are not. :? :?:

I am not with a Batbusters team. The problem with ranking these 14U teams is that it seems that all of them can run hot or cold at any time. At the Brashear invitational this weekend American Pastime looked amazing on Saturday a week after looking pretty pedestrian offensively at Zoom in to June then on Sunday they fell flat offensively. At the Stith invitational 2 weeks ago Mercado Greg looked beatable but then they ran through some very good teams at the Brashear invitational. USA Mathis looked strong at their PGF qualifier but then lost to a pair of 05 teams in So Cal As Medina/Briggs and Mercado Athletics Tidd at the Brashear invitational.

I'm open to anyone else's input on who they feel the top 20-25 14u teams in So Cal are. I can only comment on the games and teams I see.
