What's the avg speed for a 10u pitcher?

by lvtwft » Mon Feb 04, 2013 9:34 pm

Was her name Dani or Rae Rae and did this happen in a pole barn?
Not good with math, but in 2006 10u should be 16u at least and perhaps throwing 75 ish...?

ok 58mph is like wow for a 10u picher not saying it's not unheard of but it's uncommon for sure i was watching a top 5 12u game the other day and 1 of the top pitchers in southern cal was throwin 58-59 and hit 60 a couple of times and everyone was amazed the crowd around the backstop was amazing. i couldn't imagine seeing a 10u throwing 58. like i said it's possible but probably uncommon i would say anything in the low 50's would be more common but 48-50 is probably where most 10's are and the top 15-20 can hit low 50's any input from the top 10u organizations would be helpful with what is out there.

Hey Arto weren't you there that year?

My 10U All Star team (SHB) was in St Louis in 2006, and I remember the talk about the big blonde girl on SA Hitt that threw 58.
We played them and someone was behind the screen with a radar gun.
Her top speed was 55, and our little blonde pitcher's top speed was 53.
Our team had 2 pitchers that threw about 53-54, which is not that common, especially in rec league Nationals.
I remember that SA Hitt kid did throw hard, and I think she was one of those kids that are a head taller than most of the other girls at 10 yrs old.
That being said, I have stopped posting on the 10U speed threads because no one wants to hear that their little future Olympian 10 year old doesn't throw high 50's, and there are very few 10 year old girls that throw in the 50's.
Sure, maybe at a pitching lesson, walking into a pitch, just letting it go as hard as they can, they might hit a high number, but in games, it's usually around mid to high 40's and a few into the 50's.

Moral of the story?
In 2006 in St Louis, in our game vs SA Hitt, our pitcher also threw hard for a 10 year old, but she had also learned to throw a change up by then, and we were still playing on Sunday afternoon. :D

It's ok they can believe us or not believe us. When i saw them with the radar gun. i did see 58. We played the and were eliminated with that game 2-1. We had two pitchers throwing low 50's. if we'd won that game we would've finished in the top 5. And your right she didn't have a change. because of that we almost beat them. we hit one to the fence and another over but foul. Same kid. We were the spirits out of Visalia. I remember SHB, good team.

I’d say average speed for 10u is 38-43 with top speeds between 44-51 . I have only seen about 3-4 girls hitting over 50 and I ve clocked a lot of girls from quite a few triple crown tourneys in so cal this past winter season( some of those being 2007 girls that were 12 u girls playing down) In my opinion most of the “averages “ I see on various websites are a little low, but what do I know lol

12u 44-47 MPH 50-53 MPH
14u 46-49 MPH 52-55 MPH
16u 50-53 MPH 54-57 MPH
18u 53-56 MPH 58-61 MPH
College 59-64 MPH 65-72 MPH

That seems pretty low. My girl is an 8th grader (14u) and she can hit 60 MPH though her avg fastball is about 57/58.
I have a Jugs Radar Cube that she throws at as well as a Jugs gun, the gun has even given me some 61 and 62 MPH readings
