What's the avg speed for a 10u pitcher?

by ocarterok » Sun Feb 03, 2013 11:40 am

I was just wondering, what is the average speed for a 10u Travel ball pitcher? Whenever I go to a game I'm amazed at how hard some of these kids throw. What's a good speed?

For some reason my husband said he's not buying me a radar gun to figured it. Some people... :)

Yes, I'm nosy, but isn't that how you learn? :D. Everyone seems pretty nice on this site so I thought I would ask.

Agree
Top pitcher throws close to 50
location is better in 12u

Ok so 58mph from 35 feet, that has to be like 120MPH for MLB, anyone have the chart, or this may be off the chart

There several girls in 10U throwing over 50mph in So Cal right now, and I'd imagine 1-2 more that I think throw very hard that could hit 50 by the mid-summer if they don't on occasion now. That chart is pretty outdated, or meant for a different part of the country.

Hey Arto weren't you there that year?

My 10U All Star team (SHB) was in St Louis in 2006, and I remember the talk about the big blonde girl on SA Hitt that threw 58.
We played them and someone was behind the screen with a radar gun.
Her top speed was 55, and our little blonde pitcher's top speed was 53.
Our team had 2 pitchers that threw about 53-54, which is not that common, especially in rec league Nationals.
I remember that SA Hitt kid did throw hard, and I think she was one of those kids that are a head taller than most of the other girls at 10 yrs old.
That being said, I have stopped posting on the 10U speed threads because no one wants to hear that their little future Olympian 10 year old doesn't throw high 50's, and there are very few 10 year old girls that throw in the 50's.
Sure, maybe at a pitching lesson, walking into a pitch, just letting it go as hard as they can, they might hit a high number, but in games, it's usually around mid to high 40's and a few into the 50's.

Moral of the story?
In 2006 in St Louis, in our game vs SA Hitt, our pitcher also threw hard for a 10 year old, but she had also learned to throw a change up by then, and we were still playing on Sunday afternoon. :D
Deserve's got nothin' to do with it.

We faced a girl from the Birmingham Bolts 02 in the fall that was consistently throwing 54-55. She was also effectively wild which made it even tougher to hit. I've seen a few other girls throwing about 50-52. We have 2 pitchers 1 throws 51 consistently and the other 44 consistently.
