You are doing it properly. I kept stats for the past five years and that's basically what I have been doing. Don't bother yourself with comparing how the other teams are scoring their own teams, because u will undoubtedly find that what was CLEARLY an error to you and everyone else who witnessed the play, will be scored a hit by the opposing coach. I did send a gentle email to an Indy coach once when he scored his girl a hit, when she struck out 3 times and popped out. He thanked me for the oversight and changed it on Varvee. He was clearly stat-building for the girl and I called him on it. But generally do not worry yourself with what the opposing book happens to say. Stick to the formula you described with the benefit of the doubt going your team's way most of the time.
