It's cut day for most high school teams any news to share?

Ok, here is a good one from the clueless wonder at the helm. First game is Tuesday, so the last chance to practice is today and Monday. The girls have been on the field only once. It's beautiful outside today. Instead of any type of constructive practice, she decides to have them swim and further their conditioning. :o

Oh my god a softball coach on a nice evening taking the kids swimming for conditioning instead of having them out on the diamond. I spent a few hours out in the yard trying to catch up on the 10 years of neglect it has had from my coaching career and thought it was nice out.

DD's high school doesn't have a pool so I guess that is a good thing when you look at it in that light.

Thanks for the scrimmage update as well L I at least we are close to getting a softball fix by being able to watch some games.

Yep, it's spring break and for the first time since the kids were little, we're not in Florida. The coach made it clear. Work your spring break around practices. Miss practice and you'll have to play your way back onto the field. Looking at four straight years of staying home. Should of pushed more towards volleyball, or basketball, or even... soccer.

Wait, there is more . . .

This Saturday the high school was supposed to host a skills clinic for grades 4-8. Nobody signed up, because I am not the only one who knows this coach is clueless. So now the girls have to go paint the dugouts instead.

And, no they don't typically practice on Fridays or Saturdays.

This is a class 4A high school. There are something like 18-20 travel ball girls out here, some real studs too, most are freshman though and none of the freshman made varsity. So they have the talent to do well, the coaching staff just doesn't know what to do with them. I know of 3 good softball players that she completely drove away from the game last season.

Please tell me it's JUNE!!!!

Maybe that's a Mr. Miyagi tactic?

When they get done painting dugouts will you send them to my house to help stain my deck?

It is supposed to be sixty degrees tomorrow and sunny. Are they afraid if they practice they will have to drag the field after or what.

In return I will take them to a field and at least hit them a few fungo's and throw some bp for them so they get some practice on a field before the season begins!!!

Wax On Wax Off :o :o

As mentioned DD was very excited to find out she made varsity last week. As the only freshman on the squad, she is under the impression she'll spend some time on the bench....put her slapping/bunting talents to work as a pinch hitter, and likely see time as a curtosy runner for the pitcher.

Coach told her to expect lots of OF practice, as she's been an infielder ( SS/3B/C) to this point. So unless one of the returning starters goes down, any time playing defense will likely find her in the OF.

However, JV coach said she was hands down the best 3B during intra-squad practice on Tuesday. Since then, she tells me she has spent far more time working with the infielders than the outfielders. Wonder if the coach is seeing what this (admittedly biased) Dad has been telling her since day one. She is better defensively than the current sophomore SS.

Could make for an interesting season, as DD has always held a grudge against said sophomore. 8-)
