High School Daughter loses interest due to HS Program

We are pretty excited down here - new coach, new look. And as those of us who have spent a few innings on the field know, will take a while to get things rolling as she gets her program going. She is young, around 24-25 but has played since she was 4, so what she will do comes from very recent experience. Best thing of all, she spent her first weekend after taking the job, attending a coaching seminar given by some big names, Candrea being one of them. A great start - imo. She will do things different, no doubt, but this is the time where everyone has to get behind her, starting with me.

That's definitely a bonus when the coach is wanting to learn from the college coaches. Our HS coach goes to a couple seminars and models a workout program after A&M. It shows on the field. Obviously select ball was the key to recruiting but I have no doubt in my mind that the time spent in HS ball was positive. Unfortunately, that is the exception to the rule. And hopefully, our other two will have the same opportunity and if not, I'll have to re-create it myself. (results of that could be sketchy)

I was just recently told by a HS coach that the state has decided to no longer make PE and Health a requirement in Texas. They apparently are leaving it up to each district to determine if they want to continue having these classes in our schools.
Basically from what I was told, if a PE or Health teacher wants to stay at a school, they have to get certified to teach another course. Of course if there are no openings for that course, they will have to find a new school to work at.
As most of you know, there are a lot of coaches in our schools that only teach PE and/or health. Leaving those coaches to find another place to work. I know this will effect DD's school and softball coach if our district goes along with this, which sucks because she is a new coach and knows what she's doing.
I have tried finding a link online but can't seem to find anything about it.

Similar discussions going on here in Indiana. Right now it's only the summer classes that include PE that might be cut. Essentially, that means a pay cut for any PE teacher depending on that summer contract, which might force some to search for year round work - possibly even outside education, which would be a shame.

I think HS ball is very important to the kids. They want to play for their school and wear the team gear. Most HS coaches enjoy what they do and enjoy the kids. Thats why they became coaches. Some schools have a more competitive culture than others and some HS coaches are very serious students of the game. Others not so much. Either way its best to support your HS and the kids that play there. Hopefully they will do well and enjoy their experience.
