Dallas ASA 2011
This post is to tell what is in works for the 2011 Dallas ASA and to keep the DFW softball community up to speed on our local ASA forecast.


First and foremost, we will be working on our local recreational leagues and help building them to respectable numbers. Through the past several years the number of girls playing recreational softball has severally been reduced. Dallas ASA will be working with a committee to help these leagues in several different areas including marketing our game to young ladies that has never really been around girls fastpitch softball. We will also be holding training including clinics and ACE for new coaches to help them better be prepared to effectually coach these young ladies. We will be looking for many volunteers that is all ready coaching and is playing or has played this great sport, to give back to the game and help our future softball players. This is going to be a grassroots level project and will take several years to get fixed but is very important for the future of softball.


Second, our Tournaments and Round Robin play. For many who has been around softball in DFW has realized we have taken a direct hit with the loss of our Tournament site we have used for the past 10 years (at least). We have put a band aid on it by creating our website that directed you to the main ASA site for at least being able to sign up for tournaments. To put it directly so far it has been a nightmare for everyone involved. As of today along with Fort Worth ASA we are in the middle of creating a tournament website which people has grown accustom to in our local area, to better track tournaments, teams and so on. Hopefully we will launch the site by late fall, so we are prepared to have a nice start in 2011. The registerasa.com site is improving weekly and as far as registration, ACE and Background checks it has become more user friendly and is coming along nicely. We are going to have our Dallas Deputies for each age division monitor their teams and make sure all the registrations are complete and the BG check is done on all our coaches. We also are very concerned about making sure that we have divisions and that all teams which attend our tournaments have a chance to compete at their level.


Championship play has been on a constant decline locally for a few years now and I am driven to get it even better than it ever was. There are many factors involved in this decline including but not limited to the number of teams in the Dallas Metro area. I am going to personally reach out to every team this fall and winter which is currently registered through Dallas ASA and find out what they would like and get their input on the direction of their team. Dallas Metro’s just finished and to tell you the truth, it made me sick handing out the same old team trophies this year and I apologize to the teams involved. We will be coming up with a Stanley Cup like trophy that will be called the Dallas Cup. Starting this year I am going to get a nice prominent cup trophy and add all the 2010 teams which won the Dallas Metro Championship to it. Then year after year keep adding the Teams that wins Metros to the Dallas Cup. For the teams entering in Championship play I will have a coaches and deputies meeting to explain the ASA Code on Championship play. I feel there is nothing better than to attend ASA Nationals and playing teams from all over the nation to top off a hard spring/summer of softball.

I saw that too. I had heard that Dallas and Fort Worth were working on a website for the metro area that would be better than registerasa. Guess those rumors are true. Let's hope they come up with something good. Just glad to see them taking the lead and not waiting on ASA higher ups to work out the mess of the current site.
