Agreed...for everyone's argument about development and "playing down"...go play rec. Don't understand why a 97 would still be playing 12U ball in November...Why have the national tournament in August, just so your dd can play that same age bracket afterwards even knowing she has to move up in Jan.

Take your licks like the rest of us playing up and get ready for the Spring/Summer!

Completely agree with these statements. Get ready for Spring ball by playing that level in the fall. If your dd is not ready for that level then get her ready by extra lessons extra work outs and rec ball where she will get alot of playing time.

Select ball should be for the top and medium level players because it is "select ball".

There is NO arguement for anyone to "stay down/play down", CJ & Nacho have it right. Immediately after your 2nd year "World Series" or Nationals is the time, Don't embarrass yourself and/or your team by playing in the "New Years Eve" Classic again this year!!!! Another post had it right as well, these are typically weaker teams that "stay down" hunting that ever so precious $7.00 trophy!

I think it is equally annoying / absurb for a team that is moving up to pickup the "stud" older pitcher / player just so they can artificially succeed; i.e. a 99 team moving up to 12u adds a 97 pitcher to carry them through the whole tournament. Without the pitcher, they are 2 and que'.

Just how does that help the 99 team,...they do not have to play defense?

Maybe they get an extra game or two?

Come spring, they will have to survive on their own with a false sense of security.

Take your lumps like a man, coaches.

On the other hand...many are playing up (out of their age group) and are wasting our time,
i.e. 14's playing a college look?

Jan 1 should remain as the date you Have to move up. This makes since with the girls school year etc. The girls should look to moving up into the age group they will play in the spring after Nationals.
