LARGE organizations - are they involved with all their teams

This is a great topic and one I've thought about many times. As a parent who has had a daughter on 3 of those large organizations (1 was very brief), the differences are night and day.

In my perception, Org "A" has very little leadership, no team-to-team communication, every team is on their own, and no effort to increase the strength of the organization. As a side note, I've personally heard from 2 college coaches (1 of those an assistant) that they will no longer recruit out of this organization.

Org 2, it's all about the girls and building the teams stronger. Continuing education, innovative idea's and training, good communication, and several in-house recruiting opportunities. Great feeder program for the older teams.

Org 3 was brief, but I sure like where they were heading. Lots of good things starting and it will pay them ten-fold in the next few years.

I don't pretend to know what it takes to run a large organization, but it's VERY obvious which ones work and which don't. I'm sure they all put in a ton of time, but I think their time is spent on different things from organization to organization. It's also interesting to see the juggle between having control over the group vs guiding the group.

Over the years, some organizations have started out for the right reasons but now they are all about what can you do for me.

I would like to know what Glory, Elite, Batbusters do for the younger teams. Glory and Elite hold college looks and you know they make a killing off these tournaments. Glory runs the ballfields at Craig Ranch touranments. Do they send any money/knowledge/time/effort down towards the younger teams to help.

Just curious as to how this works and how they "SUPPORT" "ENCOURAGE" their younger teams.

Maybe there are other reasons that some teams are leaving the larger organizations that we are all not aware of. Slade left a large one to concentrate on a smaller, more personal one that seems to be working better and is building better players. Maybe the larger ones need to retrace their paths and start over.

I'm not looking for perfection, everyone makes mistakes, including Slade. I am looking for an environment for my kid to grow, learn, and contribute. I do think there are special opportunities that large groups offer, and I like that.

I would have to agree with that. Just like any good business plan, it's always a good idea to have an outsiders opinion (idea's from all the groups coaches?) and to consistently review your plan to see if it's working in the most effective way possible. I'm guessing that ego's may get in the way of that part though.

I understand that Ed Naudin actively participates in Glory practices at the 10U and 12U level in addition to his current team.

This is not saying much for him considering the '96 team doesn't do to well and their pitcher went to the Kruzers. The '95 Glory (Gray) team can barely hold their own and can't seem to win a tournament worth anything mentioning.

Just because Naudin helps with the younger teams does not mean they will be great teams. At least he goes out and helps.

If he is a coach like many say, he is passing down things that will help the Glory teams be stronger in the future.

Well hopefully we will see some great things soon because the younger Glory teams are not doing well.

Don't get me wrong, these larger organization need to start paying attention to the younger ones because they are the future and lately it seems that they are bringing in teams just to say "We have ??? teams in our organization".

I agree with your point about the younger teams. I have always said that the day we no longer have a 8-U team means the days of the club are numbered. My opinion is that the younger age groups 8-U through 12-U should be about teaching and learning the game. Who cares how many games you win at 10-U? Get the girls ready to compete at the 14-U through Gold ranks where they will be playing for something (Scholarships). So many younger players are never developed into the athlete they can and should be at the older age groups. Kevin is doing the right thing by hosting clinics and camps to help the younger ones better understand what they need to be doing in order to be prepared. You are also correct, bigger is not always better!
