Suggestions needed 12U organizaion N Houston

Impact lost a pretty good pitcher to Power as far as I know. At least she was at tryouts and asked to stay.

sftballjunkie, Sounds like you were at the power tryouts? If so, Just curious to know what kind of talent they had show up. We were invited to attend but was unable to make it. Also if you are still looking for a team the TPS are a 1st year team and were a competitive team last spring. Someone mentioned the ICE ,I heard they do not have a good ace pitcher nor does the Kaos 96 May be a team for you if your DD is an ace pitcher .

Guess it is true about the Impact 96.I also heard this. Where did all those girls go to?

Texas Bandits (heard the phantoms combined) 1 ace pitcher
Texas Aces - 2 ace pitchers
Texas Peppers -1 ace pitcher
Texas Sting
These teams had most of their players return.
I am sure there may be some changes I am not aware of Good luck

From what I have seen with the 12U & 14U's during this tryout process there has to be other teams that won't make. There is definately more teams than talent. Who's the next "man down"?

Power seemed to have a pretty good turnout. 7 pitchers tried out and if they kept the top 3 they are doing pretty good. As far as I could tell, all were 2nd yr 12's. My DD is a 1st year and they were looking for 2nd yrs. Good experience for her so we are pleased. She hung in with the pitchers at about #4 out of the 7 so I was happy.

I understand that 4 -5 Impact players went over to Texas Fury 96. Not sure how many Mike kept after tryouts.

I think that there will be several of these "new" 1st yr 12U's that don't make after it's all said and done. We're sticking with the established programs for tryouts.

The Power sends out alot of invitations. Last year it was in the hundreds!
I personally feel that it leads to a false impression that you really are something they are looking for when most of them don't have a clue who you are.
I think most people go to a tryout based on reputation and the hopes to be on a winning team especially at 12u. Older groups yeah it is probably for exposure.
Also I don't think that these expensive organizations at 12u are really neccesary. It is very expensive to play on the well known teams and if you just get on the best team you can, with the most playing time then you should be fine. I also think that people should look at the past years reputations, behaviors of coaches and most of all how many returning players do they have at the higher levels. If these parents spent that kind of money for exposure and hopefully playing time and in the end half don't come back the next year there is probably a reason.

I understand what catchthis is saying about being on the best team for playing time at 12U. That is exactly what we are looking for as well. I've never dealt with Power before, so we went just because it was a learning experience for my DD. We've always been straightforward in speaking with potential coaches that she's there for mound time. Period. Don't go off either saying that we are not about the TEAM, we are. She is a great TEAM player and does whatever is asked of her for the team. But, for her to develop as a pitcher, she has to pitch, and we will put her where she is able to do that or we will have to look for a team where that is available. No threats, no pouting, just honesty. We don't team hop and have stayed with the same team all year since she began playing TB. We've met a number of parents who will place their kid on a "winning team" just for the chance to say she plays there (every other inning in pool in Rt field) That's not our style.

"It takes a good player to be good on any team, but it takes a GREAT player to make a whole team better" My DD knows what that means and tries to do that.

I think if we had more organizations, and fewer start up teams, the level of play would increase dramatically in Houston area. The talent is so watered down and spread out amongst so many teams that it will be hard for any 12U team to compete at ASA Nationals next season. TPS and Kaos did well at the national level last season. Velocity was solid as well. Time will tell, if half the teams would combine it would sure help. I'm not sure that playing for an organization is that much more expensive than going independant. I would say the opposite, because a trip to USFA in florida is a lot more expensive than a trip to ASA Nationals.
