Qualifiers this weekend

by softball3421 » Wed Jul 04, 2012 1:17 pm

Why are there so few teams in the qualifiers this weekend?

Only 21 at Craig Ranch for the 18u, I think last year there were 40+.

Only 31 at ASA 18u Gold HOF Qualifier. In past years teams had to rush to get their registration in because the tournament would fill up at 64 teams.

Also, odd scheduling at HOF, literally half of the teams will be out of the tournament by the end of play on Friday night.

Before anyone ask, the tournaments were on the same weekends last year and there were more teams in both.

Is VTD, taking some of the weaker teams? They had 30 teams sign up with a max 24 entry in their WS qualifier.

Searching for a bracket link, with no luck. Do you have a bracket link by any chance?

Our coach emailed us a PDF version of the ASA brackets but I haven't been able to locate them on line anywhere either.

Premier can be found here:

I assume the Colorado tourneys ended the same time which gives you a week in between those tourneys and the qualifiers. 10-15 teams dropped out of each of these tourneys so I assume it has something to do with whether those teams think they could qualify. Some excellent teams left OKC so it is hard to believe they would not have a shot. So, could it be the 100 degree temps of Colorado putting more wear on the teams, particularly pitching?

I agree that the OKC bracket is one of the strangest ones I have ever seen. Few late games, few early games, spread out over 3 full days. I think it may make the loser bracket easier than in Spring and Waxahachee because those tourneys had 5 games on the last day for those who lost early. It is hard to believe that 15 teams may be driving home less than 12 hours from the start of the tourney. Hotels wont be very happy about that.

Premier has so few teams, and many of the strongest Texas programs have decided not to go West. It might be the first sign that this is just a big West Coast dominated tourney. Some of this money went to the NYC Triple Crown tourney for these elite teams.
