Clocking Speed-Standing Run or Off the Bat?

by diamondgal » Mon Aug 10, 2009 7:44 am

When you are clocking your players for baserunning times Home to 1st, 2nd to Home, & Home to Home are your just having the girls start from a standing run or off the bat? What is used when player profiles are put together and these numbers are listed?

There was a debate over timing methods in this recent thread:

At the NFCA Camps we use standing start with foot on home plate. Clock starts when players first step hits the ground and stops when it hits the base.

NFCA standard. Right side box. On first step touching ground to touch of bag. We time with two watches and average the time. Anything at or below 2.75 seconds is real speed.

I personally had a top ten DIVISION II college coach say that she gets "interested" when the number is around 2.8. If the number is 2.65 then she starts talking about how much money she wants to offer...."speed doesn't slump"
