New Practice~~~ Stealing Pitching signs~~~

by MaddHatter » Tue Nov 10, 2009 8:20 am

What is the deal? Teams are now stealing pitching signs. I heard of two different teams that were utilizing this practice this past weekend. Why cheat?

Cheating is using an altered or illegal bat. Stealing signs, while unsavory, is not cheating. It's up to the defense to change their signs if the signs are too easy to figure out. And it easier to steal signs than to teach pitch recognition and rely on the batter's own hitting prowess to make the proper adjustments. Sad but true. How would you teach pitch recognition so as to avoid having to steal another team's signs?

There was a team this weekend in the RM that also stole pitching signs. They had their girls on second relaying the signs to the batter with hand signs. I guess you should just keep them off base, that way the batter was on their own.

They also coached their girls to leave base early. The game I saw, they got called out for leaving early 2 or 3 times.

But, they were 2 and Q. What does that tell you!!

this is all really common in socal.
instead of complaining, learn to give two sets of signs, or some way to counter the other team stealing signs.

as far as leaving early, again, a common practice here in socal. leave early until you get caught.
It was part of my practices when i coached.
and the best teams around here do it, and don't go 2 and q...what does that tell you?
Deserve's got nothin' to do with it.

Infielders, (usually corners) pick offensive signs too. Its not cheating. All the information is out there, if you want it, use it. Personally I havent seen too many 13yos that want a guy or a girl yelling out "tips" during the pitchers windup. Some like it, most (from what ive seen) dont.

It's not so much signs they are stealing it's location. It is a simple fix, that any decent catcher can put a stop to. And as far as leaving early....I teach my girls to leave as early as possible and put the umpire to work, if he doesnt call it then you have gained an advantage. If you are not pushing the envelope then your running game will suffer because the catchers arms are not getting weaker as they get older.

What exact does the Q stand for?

I have heard
1 2 Bar B Q
2 and out
2 and through
but 2 and Q makes no sense
What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.
