Best 10U teams out there

by SawxFan » Fri May 28, 2010 1:09 am

Hey guys. I'm a "new" select coach (new to the softball side)and just wanted to know some of the teams out there to look out for. I've coached a few years on the baseball side here in East Texas. It's hard to decide which tourney to enter because of the way classifications are done over here on this side. We are a small town team looking for some good competition but at the same time we don't want to waste our time and get our butts handed to us. Willing to travel a bit if it's worth it. Thanks in advance for any info you guys have.

I have a few connections in the DFW area on the baseball side and have heard about a few teams but just wanted some additional info.

Really? Must we again!!!

This has been discussed, cussed, dismantled, deconstructed, and any other word you can think of....

Go to page 2 and read all about it...

There is a good 10U tournament in the making.....

Well I read through that entire pissing match...errrr...thread and I learned the following:

1. People won't believe how fast a kid can throw unless they actually see the radar gun. (this is discussed ad nauseum on page 2 which is where I was specifically directed to read)

2. Even if they see the radar gun they will say it must be broken if the MPH is what they consider unrealistic or too fast.

3. This message board is loaded with idiots. If you are offended by that statement then you're probably one of them. There are a few knowledgeable folks, but they are few and far between.

4. If you compare that thread to the VTD website's list of the top points for teams, there are some GLARING OMISSIONS. Including teams in the top 5 according to VTD THAT AREN'T EVEN MENTIONED IN THAT THREAD. Not to mention teams that ARE mentioned over and over that have been getting tuned up on the regular over the last month or so.

So just from browsing and asking around some I've come up with a list of the names I keep hearing the most.

AXE
Glory Adkins
D-Bat (can't remember which one)
Mansfield (?) Black Sox
Mizuno
Texas Blast Waco
Xtreme Heat

...and a few others that slipped my mind. If you guys can confirm or give any info on those teams I would appreciate it. It's hard to go off of tournament archives and ribbons. I wanted to actually hear from some folks that have seen the teams in action. Also feel free to add any teams that you've watched and feel have a solid chance of making some noise in the future.

Sawx,
Everyone goes through the- "I'm new", "I'm a young team" "first year" "small town" Growing Pains. Following Fanatics suggestion may also be an unpleasurable experience as you've already seen. Play a lot of friendlies, sign up for tournaments and take your butt-kicking like we all have as a first year team. Evaluate through your own experience not others claiming to be "Rankings Experts". ;)

My only recommendation is to find tournaments where you are playing 5-6 gg. You will, as the previous poster commented, take your licks. Nothing you can do about that. But at least in these formats you will be able to get plenty of playing time. Beyond that, the Waco tournaments seem to be a good place for teams to start. There are some what I would call select "lite" teams in these. If you are looking to stay away from the "heavy hitters" Texas wise then the list would include (alphabetical, not ranked)

99 Texas Bombers (Central Texas)
Blaze (Central Texas)
D-Bat Black Sox (DFW)
Glory - Richardson (DFW)
Humble Cobras (Houston)
Kruzers (DFW)
Mizuno (East Texas) (although I heard they broke up... Can anyone confirm???)
Phantomz (Houston)
Rough Riders (DFW)
Texas Threat (DFW)
TPS (Houston)

In regards to Mizuno, I don't think they have broken up because they are playing in Oklahoma City this weekend in the Triple Crown event from what I hear. They play my DD friends team in their 1st pool game.

That would be a shame if that team broke because I have seen them play and they have a pretty good squad.

I called a contact I have with someone's DD that plays for em...says Mizuno is playing in OKC in Triple Crown...maybe someone got a mixed message somewhere...who knows. They always seem to play well,.All of the mizuno teams seem to be playing well, wherever you see that name in N.Tx, you can bet you have a game on your hands!
