Hitting Instructors in D/FW

Somewhat new in to the fastpitch world. Would greatly appreciate any info on hitting instructors in the D/FW area....

Is it better to find a instructor who is fastpitch only or do most do baseball and fastpitch??

Just seems like such a different swing that it scared me a little when a couple of instructors that I have talked with said they do both..?

As with anything, I know that you only get out of it what you put in so I realize alot of it is how hard the kid works

As with all instructors, find someone your daughter can understand and try to relate with. Both of my girls go to Alli Kennewell at Homerun Alley in Carrollton. One is a lefty and the other is a righty, but she crafts the lesson for each girl. It is a slow process, but I am starting to see the results in each child when they play.

Maybe your starting point for finding a hitting instructor if flawed?

Mike Condrea, Sue Enquist, Tim Walton, Pat Murphy, Patti Gasso, Jo Beth Evans, Connie Clark, Glenn Moore, etc., etc. all think the softball swing and baseball swing (exclusing slappers of course) is identical. You'll be fine with a good baseball/softball instructor.

txfastpitchsoftball is absolutely correct. If anyone tries to tell you that Baseball and Softball swings are different, RUN!!

Txfastpitch--a) Do you want it to end? Are you really involved in a sport that you don't want to see grow? Sorry that my kid is new into fastpitch and that I want to learn what I can about the game. It would seem to me that the more people that get involved with select softball, the better.

02dad, don't worry about it. Some people on this board like to make themselves feel better by getting in a jab when they can.

My DD goes to Doug Miller at DBat in Frisco. He has made a HUGE difference in her ability at the plate. He relates to her really well which is equally as important in my mind. She constantly has coaches tell her she has one of the most fundamentally sound swings they have seen.

My suggestion: find someone you both like and she'll be more apt to learn.

Actuallly, I do want it to end. The discussion about whether the baseball/softball swing is different was "over" at least two or three years ago.

Then we had a new group of former player/high school coach "professional instructors," who played in the late '90s and early 2000s show up and start teaching the old softball swing that they had learned in high school/college . . . and this discussion started all over again. I cringe every time I am at the cages and hear a former player/high school coach "professional instructor" start talking to a parent of a young kid about how the swings are different . . .

But, you are correct and I totally agree that the more people involved in select (AND recreational) leagues the better. I just say do some research before posting on places like heybucket.

And no, Underdog, I can't remember ever being part of the "new crop." Too long ago, I guess. But, I've always taught that a softball swing and a baseball swing are the same (except for slappers). Lost a lot of good kids years ago because the parents thought I was crazy.

I often wonder why parents in select softball get such a bad wrap. Maybe this is why. A friend tells me about this message board called Heybucket where I might could get some help finding a hitting instructor. I obivously don't have the skills or knowledge about hitting or I wouldn't be looking for an instructor. Instead of an instructor, I'm instructed not to come on places like "Heybucket" without doing some research.. Call me crazy but I thought asking for help on the situation would be considered "doing research".

Or you could have taken your friend's advice, came onto Heybucket, and just ask "who is a good softball hitting instructor in the DFW area."

Instead, like most rec ball parents (mostly fathers) you wanted to act like you know more than you do, and you just had to give us your opinion that the swings are different. Two minutes of research on Google would have save you from making that statement.

The reason that rec ball parents get slammed on this website is because they act like they know more than they do. . . now you know.
