Which Texas Softball Programs are Consistent D1 Feeders?

by catcherdad » Sat Oct 09, 2010 6:44 am

It seems like the D1 programs rarely sign players outside of a very small number of Texas teams. I think College coaches begin to trust the development of players by these teams. Which teams in your area of Texas are the feeders? Why is it so hard to break in from the other programs? I know there are alot of terrific players out there.

Houston - Impact Gold is the prime example.

My guess would be that many programs are not preparing their girls for the recruiting process. There is a lot that goes into being recruited, D-I or otherwise. Most organizations simply aren't taking the time to figure out what that is. Any organization that does isn't going to come on here and pound their chest about it.

In DFW there are several teams that get some players to D-1.

Both Glory's, Travelers, Batbusters, Elite, American Freedom all have some girls go D-1.

In Central there is the Storm, Blaze and the Bombers.

In Houston you have Impact, Sting, Peppers, Majic, Aces, and many others.

Many of the coaches have developed a relationship with certain programs and the coaches keep coming back.

The Travelers have no real public info on their recruits. Here is a list of what each organization claims as girls they have gotten recruited. I've underlined the girls that appear in multiple organizations and did not count them in my tally. This list is unofficial so if there are missing names or misspellings, please excuse. Also, not all of these names are signed players as I did include commitments. Also there are players counted from one list that I know should be on another AND Elite goes way back to 2003 players so this listing is a tad skewed.

A more valid question would be how many finished school and where are they now? Did they put their opportunity to good use?

Why is that a more valid question? I mean I share your hope that when these girls are going off to college that they are getting a good education but you know as well as I do this isn't always the reality, athlete or not. I hope most of these programs are teaching valuable life lessons to these girls that they can use well beyond softball, but it's certainly not the sole responsibility of the fastpitch organization, (or apparently in some cases-organizationS,) to get these kids to be responsible students. The poster wanted to know which organizations consistently fed players into Division I programs. Seems like a valid enough question to me.

Just to clarify. The athletes that you list as Storm here is the Texas Storm out of Houston, not the Storm out of the Central part of the state.
