by sbfan » Tue May 20, 2008 11:41 am

So what is everyones opinion, should travel SB get like all the other select sports and have more paid coach's or should we have a bunch of daddy ball teams?

What are pro's and con's

Is that a Texas-specific question?

Okay, just curious, b/c you posted it under "Top 10 Teams, TX"....which is somewhat of a trend that many Texas posters have followed, regardless whether the post is specifically concerning Texas (much less the top 10) or of more general interest.

You guys talk some serious smack down there...and where it concerns us too, we want in.

That stuff belongs under "Fastpitch Discussions."

 We don't have to worry about that around here...no coaches good enough to get paid. The ones that do get $$$ from con'ed DDGM's either run, party with the DDGM's/DWD's/DD"s or eventually get burned at the stake.

Yea i know why alot of people would think there are not coach's good enough to get paid, because of EGO. Everyone has been a coach before and they think they can do it better. Some of the biggest problems with teams breaking up is all these former coach's thinking they can do it better and break the team up and start up another one. I beleive most select baseball teams have paid coach's so it works for them some how.

What teams in texas have non parent coach's and what would be a good age to start having the non parent coach?

(question to self....hmmm...let this die a well deserved death or make an intelligent observation to revive the thread...)

Ok, I'll toss out a bone. I'm not aware of very many paid coaches in Texas. Austin Storm and Fusion organizations provide some kind of pay, from what I understand. Maybe the Avengers also. Anyone know of others? In NT I'm relatively certain that none of the coaches with the Glory, Batbusters, Travelers or Elite clubs are paid. Please correct me if I'm wrong. There are some teams that are independantly bankrolled but I don't think those include anything beyond token compensation (as in, nobody pays dues). Also, I'm not aware of many that utilize player/coach contracts to to formalize the relationships. I can't apeak to arrangements any of the Houston teams may have.

I'll leave the question of worth to the market. Would I pay $3k up front and $200/month plus travel expenses to have a former UT-Austin player serve as a part-time coach? Some do, but me, probably not. From what I hear, Ed Naudin runs as aggressive and comprehensive a practice as there is in NT. Don't think he's paid. With his track record, he should be if anyone is.

Is there a difference in the quality of instruction and level of play on the Cali teams that have paid coaches? Weigh in, guys, interested in your opinions. If you think this is worthy, Mssrs. Skarp and Arto, let's transfer to the national boards.
[i]Wow, a "full ride" at Bugtustle State College to play softball. Let me know how that degree looks on the resume.
