Going to PCB & Nats?

Just wanted to hear from some teams that went to Panama City and ASA Nationals this year: Was it too much? Which did the kids like the most?

We have been to PCB the last 2 years and had a blast. Both years, had a few rain delays but crews worked hard to get fields ready and games went on. I have not been to ASA nats but our girls all want to go back to Florida. With the cost associated with a trip to nationals, no matter which one you go to, it is likely the only "vacation" most families will get each year. Our team tries to combine the best of both worlds. A great vacation spot and some great softball.

You have plenty of time for ASA, its not going anywhere. Our families still talk about PCB as well. Our route was 8 Pony, 9 Pony,10 ASA, 11 NSA, 12 ASA, PCB, 13 PCB, 14nada, 15 ASA gold (attempted, didnt qualify). Now that she is in high school, though because we go to year around school, the normal time for nationals is the 3rd or 4th week of school. She typically takes mostly AP and Pre-Ap classes and she wont take a week off, at that level it would ruin your grades.

I have been to florida with my team for the past two years and it was AMAZING! all the fields are really nice.. This year we played one game each day so after each game we were at the beach and having fun the parents were right there with us having fun and that was my familys only vacation for the summer so if you want some where that is fun and a great place for vacation that is the tournament to go to.

Thanks for the responses. We have been to PCB the last 2 yrs, but are looking at going to both this year. I guess i didn't word it too well, but I was wanting to hear from some of the folks that have done boh in the same year, if it was too much travelling / softball / $, or if the kids handled it fine.

This shouldnt even be a question if you are serious about softball. We had the privlage of going to nationals a year ago and it an experience like no other. When kids are not playing they are at the fields watching teams that they heard much about during the year. Dont get me wrong
when were not playing the parents hang out by the pool have some cold ones. But for the most part softball is priority and if your around kids, parent and coaches that love to play the game it make it that more enjoyable. If your 10s and maybe first year 12 than go to be beach all you want but if your kid see softball in her future than ASA is your path. It's all about building your resume for college and all the college coaches know what USFA is about.

I'm gonna have to go on record and say that if your kid has it, then she has it. The college coaches are gonna find out if she has it. PCB is all about having fun while enjoying some great softball. The same good times happen at ASA tournaments too. It's just that they are not normally as close to the ocean. Just as many cool ones are drank in ASA as there is in USFA, don't try to deny that. I will say that the teams that are able for the parents to drink as many cool ones as they can together is all that much better. It doesn't matter if it is at the beach or in the lobby of the Hampton, it is all still good. And when the next day rolls around, all the coaches and the parents are there, getting their team ready for the upcoming game... It is even that much better if another team is staying in the same hotel... You get to chat and BS but when it comes time for game time, it is on!!!!

I know if she has it she has it... What state are the best teams from (California) and how many teams do they send to PCB? How many college coaches where at 16u PCB and how many where at 16u ASA nationals (at least 90)? So you do the math would you rather go to ASA and play against the best and be seen by tons of coaches or go to the beach (PCB) and hopefully someone shows up to see the one that has it.

ASA all the way!!!!! But, if a pitcher is throwing 60 plus and the parents do their job with their portfolios, the kid is going to be seen. Don't get me wrong, I think ASA is the way to go for the best competition and PCB is for the vacation (and the opportunity to play down in B and win with second year teams??).
