FACE MASK

by Ovr_tha_Fence » Wed Nov 25, 2009 3:17 pm

What is good for some isn't always good for others. It should be the parent's/player's choice period.

Teach your DD's to throw with spin and movement off of the plate, not over the plate. Learn how to pitch earlier rather than later. Don't wait till 16U to decide that you need more than a fastball and a changeup.

Meatballs can and will come back where they came from.
Abuse is a perverted way of "winning" over others. It is the opposite of being a good sport.

Even the best pitchers throw meatballs across the plate, not as often but it does happen.
It only takes (1) of them for the pitcher to get it back in the face.

I guess my question is Why not wear a Mask?? The new ones have great visibility and are very light.

One of the most frightening things I have ever seen was when one of my 16U pitchers got hit in the face. Fractured her eye socket and jaw and knocked out 6 teeth. She was wearing a mask! I cant even begin to imagine what might have hapened if she was not.
Wearing or not wearing a mask should be left up to the individual but I would strongly suggest you condider it if your pitching or playing third.

If a pitcher is throwing with movement and spin, then it would be less likely to come right back at them. Even if they miss and leave over the plate.

Why not wear them?
Again. It should be a personal choice.

I think it provides a false sense of protection. That's just my opinion.

Injuries are going to happen. If you are afraid your kid will get hurt, then by all means, make them wear the mask.

It should never be mandated.

So your DD is so great that she will never accidentally throw one over the plate. Sir, I hate to inform you but it doesn't even need to be a meat ball... You will remember this comment if your DD is ever laying in the emrgency room with them trying to find her nose.. Just saying, it is better to be safe than sorry. $29.95 for the mask MR. "my daughter never throws it over the plate and she has such good spin"!! Ding dong!!

If my DD hits a pitchers face with a batted ball what is my liability? With the recent decision in Montana I am wondering if the liability will end at the bat, or will the hands become legally part of the bat? When that eventually commes to pass, which I am sure some lawyer will ensure, will batters become responsible for making sure the fielders are protected?
Luck is simply preparation meeting opportunity

I love it when the pro-mask crowd get their panties in a bunch over this subject. Straight to attack mode with the above comment about emergency rooms and fify additions to my post.

Read my post and discover that I never said my DD was perfect.
It's about choice and knowing how to pitch.

You take care of yours, I take care of mine. Good luck to you and yours and I hope you never experience an emergency room with your DD, sir.

I already have, but not from a ball beaning her. 8-)

Happy Thanksgiving, Sir.

ROTFLMAO!!! You're joking I hope? If that's what you're hanging your hat on you're in for a rude awakening. Wait until she faces a very skilled batter swinging a Rocketech, or worse yet, a shaved bat, who will adjust to the pitching.

Really??? How so?? I've been around girls who have been wearing masks for 2+ years and I don't see it.

I'll be the bad guy here and make the unpopular declaration. I say mandate, just like batting helmets, for the very least the pitcher. I'll go as far as mandating for F3 and F5, all the way up to senior year in high school.

So, your DD plays what? 8U?
I'm LMAO.

I gave my opinion. If you don't like it, that's fine.

My DD has faced plenty of skilled batters in "Gold" with big bad RT's and worse.
I can assure you, she ain't scared nor does she hide behind a mask.

So please preach to me some more about what I should hang my hat on.

There's no winner or loser here. It's a personal choice. If sissies are what you want, then sissies are what you will get if you mandate masks.

Teach them how to play the game and not be scared of it.

Call me mister unpopular opinion. 8-)
