Why do coaches play pickups over their own kids

Agreed! Way to many unknowns to this story for a bunch of message board experts to give you the answer you want to hear. I'm sure the Coach has plenty of reasons why.

Pickups are probably better than their own.

Big Dawg, I think the reasons already posted are very clear. Winning takes precedents over everything including loyalty. Some agree, some don't. Side note: most that don't agree, just live with it.

My answers:
Did not give that plan. Therefore my griping.
Was not short handed.
Reasons were already discussed in this thread.
I'm confident I got a good size pair. Could be the biggest ones here, but thank you for your concern.

Bevis, oh excuse me... aformrduner... (aka-a message board expert, slamming on messages board experts) yes, the coach had reasons. Since you are so eager to agree! I wanted to thank for sharing your VALUABEL insight. If your slow, that's s-a-r-c-a-s-m!

1st - If an organization makes it known that the best nine play and that pickups will be used, no one should have complaints.
2nd - If they don't make it known, pickups are reasonable when injuries or absences occur.
3rd - In 10 years of watching asa ball, I have not seen a pickup get a team substantially deeper than if they had used their own players. One game, yes. Maybe two. Championship never. Why? Most pickups are available because their team did not make it. Bottom line is they are not gamechanging players. If they were, their team would have qualified. Also, teams that use pickups have BAD CHEMISTRY. A well coached group of less talented kids with chemistry will beat the team that is sulking because a pickup is batting #3 and playing every inning. That gets worse if the pickup's mom or dad are arrogant, saying you would be no where without us. And, it gets worse if the pickup bats .100

Dont get defensive because your kid sat the bench because a pickup was better! Just sayin.
