TPS98 Tournament

by SoftballG » Fri Feb 25, 2011 10:30 am

So calling out a team for being average doesn't seem too cool now huh?
Just sayin, if ur kid can't play for those teams, she must be, well you know... :?

Based on the input from the rest of the board, what happened to the Finest? How many wins did they log this weekend?

TPS99- Great Bunch of scrappy little DD’s. Stay together and you’ll be a Strong 2nd year 12U Team
Storm Elite98- Lots of bad breaks for this team. It will come together have faith. Team looks stronger.
TxAces98 – Average at best need work in all areas
Mizuno98- Strong finishes in the Fall rough start in the Spring. Tighten it up JC.
Legends98- This team first showing looked like a Rabid Pit Bull with SARS Virus. Mowed down all competition. They have their sights set on the TPS98, PPanthers98 and Force98. Keep a watchful eye for this team. Will be contenders.
Smash98 AKA: Teampickup98 – Not only does this team pickup players it’s my understanding they hand picked a thoro bred. This DD hit one so far they had to phone a friend to find it. Congratulations on the HOME RUN. Still weak and in a lot of areas.
TxHeat99- Strong little 99 team has upset some 98 teams. I look forward to watching the DD’s grow as a team.
Houston Power98 – Roster appears smaller, stronger sticks, Defense needs work. Head Coach? Did she quit? Sure hope not things have turned around for this team since the fall.
TxRage98 – Looked better than last Tourney. Still struggling with the sticks but came up with some key hits to take 2nd Congrats.
Peppers98 – Looked beat up and wore out. Struggled in this tournament but fans are saying there will be a strong finish.
Austin’s Finest- Average appeared to struggle in all areas.
TPS98- Hosted the Tournament but all their DD’s still played but on 12 different teams. Which upset a lot of Coaches and Parents? So my question: Should you be allowed to Pickup Players for tournaments? I know the Smash98’s answer but would like to get some feedback on this?
Force98- Strong Finish in the fall but nowhere to found in the Spring! Is the team in trouble? Is there Coaching issues? When will this team surface Again?
PPanthers98- is too missing in action. Why?
Congrats on the winners..... Legends98, Rage98 & HP98

Keep the Prayers coming for Coach Marty's full recovery.

Hotbox:

Thanks for the comments on our tourney. As for you team evaluations you seem to have put some good thought into your analysis.

I would like to point out a couple of things. We had 3 of our players fill in...all on different teams. My daughter was going to be the original fill-in on Smash, but did not want to risk injury playing for another team. Not sure where you got the hand-picked info. One played on our TPS 99 team and one played for the Aces Express. Only the Smash placed in the top five (tied for 5th). This is was an early tourney where teams had players involved with school sports and illness (I know the Smash had one player who was ill). I don't think one TPS 98 player per team made that big of a difference since none of those teams placed in the top 3, and one was called average in your analysis.

And since we do not have 12 players I am not sure how you saw us on 12 different teams. Might want to have that vision checked! :o

LMAO…… My vision is fine. I wasn’t trying to ruffle your little tail feathers pumpkin. Trust me I know exactly where all the TPS players played I was just poking fun. TPS98 has a great group of Parents and Coaches. It’s obvious that you have some connection with the Smash and that’s ok but since you mentioned it when’s the last time you seen the Smash without a pickup player? If they played in 10 Tourneys they’ve had 9 pickups. Oh and your wrong!!!!! The TPS DD that hit the bomb impacted that game and the TPS Pitcher that closed against Mizuno also impacted that game. You take both of those TPS DD’s out of the scenario and it changes EVERYTHING. :o Just spreading the Love :D

Glad to be back SftWarrior Thanks.....

@HotBox:

Not really in the mood to get in one of these petty discussions with you today as we in the Houston area are dealing with the more serious issue of the passing of a great coach (Marti Miranda, Red Hots and Aces Express 14U).

No...I have no connection with the Smash 98. My DD played with Ice 97 last year and when I decided to hold her down to play with her age group this year we moved to TPS 98. I have no connections at all with the Smash. My DD was originally going to play with them as a pick-up because she has a new hitting coach and it would have provided her the opportunity to get some live game pitching for the first time this year. I could not tell you one thing about the Smash as I have to many other things in life to concern myself with than whether I am facing a team of pick-ups.

It is my understanding, and I may be wrong as I do not make it a point to keep up with everyones rosters, that the Aces Express only had one pitcher. Pitching through a tourney with one pitcher is not smart at the 12U level as it will wear out a pitcher's arm. Again, pitching a pick-up player, and our player only pitched one inning, is a decision of the coach of the team that player is picking up with and that coach is ultimately responsible for his/her team.

I will say that I do not believe in setting a player to play a pick-up, except to rest a player. I was busy working the tourney so I did not see if this was happening.

Finally, unless your team goal is to play local tourneys and not play at Nat's, you should want to play the best in order to get stronger. What have you gained by beating a team you should beat?

The focus in the Houston area this weekend should be Marti, his family and his Aces Express players. For those that are unaware, Marti passed away from liver cancer this morning. There is a benefit tourney being hosted by TPS 97 and 98 in Deer Park this weekend. Even if your team is not playing, I invite everyone to come out and support the benefit. All funding will go to Marti's family.

Good weekend/tournament. Mucho congratulations to the winners. To me it looks to be a strong group of teams overall.
TPS99- Looked like a good younger team. I think currently the TxHeat 99 and Celna Heat are the best 99’s.
Storm Elite98- This group seems to need work here and there. They will be able to fight their way to late Sundays.
Mizuno98- …Look great at times other times …
Legends98- Is this the biggest sleeper of the 98’s ever? Or can they stand the test of time? Very good weekend keep it up.
Smash98 – Seen to be looking for players. They should be in the hunt from week to week.
TxHeat99- Keep playing second year teams and enjoy your dominance next year.
Houston Power98 – Jury is still out on them. They seem to stumble this week after a good showing last week. Not sure if they will be top 5 consistently.
TxRage98 – This team will be a top team all season long.
Peppers98 – Seem a little weak. Will they chase the big tournaments or disappear?
Austin’s Finest- At least they keep traveling to Houston to challenge themselves, and work against strong teams.
TPS98- Has the same strong talent, but seem to be beatable in the fall. Which direction will they go?
Force98- I read their roster is at 9 and looking. Playing 14U? Is this why we have not seen them?
Panthers98- Have not seen them this spring either, are they also playing up or fighting injuries? They should be in the hunt when they show up.

It feels like the top three spots in the 12U division is up for grabs. These teams need to stay injury free and challenge themselves to get better all season long.

Thoughts and prayers out to coach Marti’s family. Although I did not know you, you obviously touched a lot of lives. It sounds like they got a good man upstairs today.

I agree Force had a strong Fall. Trouble??? Not at all in fact we played a 14u RR in Sugarland the weekend before the Roundup. Playing this weekend 14u in the Woodlands. 9 very strong DD's comprise this team, filled their immediate need at third.... some depth would be nice though. Force will be ready by the time the Money tournament rolls around.

[quote="HotBox:)"]TPS98 12U Tourney……………. Great Job Coaches and Parents

TPS98-

Force98- Strong Finish in the fall but nowhere to be found in the Spring! Is the team in trouble? Is there Coaching issues? When will this team surface Again?

Panthers98- is too missing in action. Why?

There has been some interest why 3 of the top 5 teams have not made their presence known yet.

Tps98 will be playing in Marti's benefit (Prayers and thoughts to his Family) this week-end so we all shall see how they look.

Panthers were scheduled to play but with drew ???? They finished the fall very strong. Maybe school sports are still affecting their ability to field enough players. It happens all the time.

Force98 it appears would rather play 14u, if that is what makes their team stronger, more power to then. You have to do what you feel is best for your team. 12's would like to see them play.

I think all 3 of these excellant teams will be showing 12u some great play before long. I am sure the rest of the teams will be geared up and ready for it.

Its going to be a great spring and summer for Softball.

We all will Miss Marti.

Looks like they did just fine this past weekend huh? All teams have a bad weekend from time to time and it still early in the season, good luck to all the 12u Texas Teams on their run to Nationals where ever you go.
