Oh really? Well then let's do away with the facemask on the helmet, or let's just get rid of the helmet all together.

It is just like a seat belt law or wearing a helmet while riding your motorcycle.

Playing ball w/ kids under 14 years old is a bit different than an adult getting on a motorcycle. Some rules are in place to protect the innocent - kid's in sports. Others are in place to protect the idiots - seatbelts...although, I say just write it off as population control.

My dd pitches and plays first and we have required her to wear a mask since she played 10u We are both nurses and our thoughts are it is better to pay $12.99 for a mask than $50,000 for oromaxilfacial surgery to put her face back together. She whined at first but then got used to it. I cannot tell you how many times a line drive has been hit right back to her and gone a mere inch over her head or she has hit a line drive and almost taken out the third baseman or the pitcher. We had a pitcher wearing a mask take a line drive to the top of the mask and was knocked out briefly but was unharmed thanks to the mask. THEY ARE A LIFESAVER AND SHOULD BE REQUIRED BY ALL TEAMS. If tournament organizers were smart, they would require them as part of the rules.

No, you as parents should do as you see fit for your child and leave others to do the same. How about I come to your house and decide what you have for dinner because I know what is best for you?

You sound like someone who believes in NOT giving water breaks to kids because it makes them tough or come in with steel spikes high and cut the fielder if they get in the way and then smile about it. GET IN THE REAL WORLD. Think about the safety of your dd not the Tougher and meaner than you sindrom.

I don't care what you have for dinner, but I do care about the safety of every child that plays sports. Rules are pasted sometimes to protect players who have parents with beliefs like you.

My thoughts and prayers go out to this kid and family. Lets hope for a speedy recovery and no serious lasting effects.

I think the governing bodies(ASA<, LL, et all), at a rec level, need to educate the young softball parents as to the risks and available products at the time.... and as they get older. From 6U-1st year 12's we never even had a clue.... We, as parents, need to decide on this issue from there.
The spirit, the will to win, and the will to excel are the things that endure.
These qualities are so much more important than the events that occur.

It comes down to choice...God bless that you have a choice. The problem is when we no longer have choices. Don't take that away from me, and don't say what is best for me or my family.

If a team makes that choice I am okay with it, parents can take their ball and go elsewhere. But to make every person (or certain positions) wear one, that is going too far.

Parents can make an educated decision for themselves.

And by-the-way Tex, don't assume you know everyone's position just because they are defending personal freedom.

So it's okay to choose not to use a carseat for your child? Or what if I want DS to play football without a helmet? There's a fine line between choice and stupidity.

Try the RIP-IT mask. It provides the least amount of obstruction and more parents will win more battles on this topic.

Spazsdad

My opinion is based on the safety of the dd's. By the way what position does your dd play??
You seem to be more concerned with proper spelling of every word written than with the safety of the dd's out there.

What is your ideas on safety in the sport of softball?? I would be interested in knowing.

I hope I spelled every word correctly. I would hate to think that would cause someone to not think about the safety of their children. Your replies to this post lead people to think you feel this is a joking matter. If so I think you are either an idiot or have no compassion what so ever.
