so you want to put a mask on the right fielder??? give me a break!!!! 3b, 1b and pitcher are the only ones in real danger... if your RF gets hit in the face with a line drive then she should have been playing another sport...or the coach is not a very good selector of players??

What about a bad hop in the OF that takes out her front teeth? In the words of those supporting mandatory masks "I've seen it happen".

good point but not nearly as hot a a .03 second line drive back to the p, 1b or 3b... i don't think you can even put both of those arguments into the same sentence i guess third and first base coaches should start wearing too then huh.. and heck just for the sake of arguing, make the coach sitting on the bucket wear a mask and a helmet... your just trying to start crap spazsdad

SpazDad:

In your typical way, you use sarcasm over commen sense. I believe if you review the posts, it is not the fact that we have seen it happen as a reason for our belief that it should be required to wear a mask at 1st, 3rd and pitcher. It is the SEVERITY OF THE INJURY FROM A LINE DRIVE TAKEN TO THE HEAD FROM 15-30 FEET AWAY! Big difference from a ball that bounces off the ground in the outfield and damages a couple of teeth. As much as I would hate to see that happen, I very seriusly doubt that permanent eye damage, brain damage or death will occur from that type of contact.

$40.00 for mask to protect dd skull or
$50,000.00 in orthopedic and plastic surgeryto put dd face back together

Required? Absolutely! for 1st, 3rd and pitcher.

For those that disagree...then lets not require helmets for batting, break away bases, ball nets and any of the other technology that has been developed to protect the girls.

$100,000 hip replacement for 40 year-old former HS football player
$0 for 40 year-old former HS band student

There are risks in playing sports and any parent should understand that when they sign that waiver. Some protection is needed...but let's not lay a turd about it.

Joe:

You seem to have taken the same route here as Spazdad. There is a HUGE difference between having a 40-year old having a hip replacement and permanent blindness, brain damge, or even death froma line shot to the head from 15-30 feet away!

For one thing that 40-year old will walk after the hip replacement and for the most part can go on with a normal life. A 10-18 year old girl can have the rest of her life to be a productive citizen eliminated in about 2-seconds with a shot to the head. Blindness, brain damage and death are way more serious!

Please take this serious and quit using lame arguments. If you want to risk your DD's future over some lame ideal like parent rights knock yourself out (Pun intended). It is views like yours that create the need for a rule like this. Protect those who are unable to use common sense.

Wingin' It

In recent years, at least two little league pitchers have died from cardiac arrest when balls where hit to their chest areas. What protection do you propose for them? Numerous HS football players die each year playing the sport in full pads. How many more pads do they need? I like the idea of a younger player wearing extra protection, but once they reach HS age, they and their parents can decide.

Joe, the lame one

i have always respected spazsdad and joe's coments on HB but the last few of them are way off base and i cannot figure out why... maybe it is hard for you both to admit that maybe your view on the face mask is wrong. as bad as it may sound i wonder if your minds would change if your dd's played one of those positions and i would like to see what you thought after they had been cold cocked from a line drive that reaches them in .03 seconds or less ripping the face apart and moving their nose to the side of their face and causing blindness in one or both eyes not to mention having fake teeth for the rest of their life, if they lived. maybe then you would change your freaking stupid minds on this. i for one have had my dd hit in the face and she stood no chance to protect herself. maybe everybody sitting in the stands should be required to wear helmets so they are not hit by foul balls... ya'll are just so wrong on theis and i thing bring it is right on about everything that was said..
