12U Teams

Slapper, i'm not trying to rag on you. I wish you and your DD's the best of luck this spring break. I hope they do well. I just didn't think you should be ragging on us and our DD's just because they are still young and have a lot of growing up to do. I know us parents will have to grow with them but we still want to have all the fun that you had with yours when they were this age. I guess if you want to laugh that is ok but it would be nice if you would keep that to your self.

Slapper's right. I feel stupid and guilty just reading this post about the 'best' 12U teams. I'm going to go back to my humble hole and never watch my kid play again. Ok, maybe not.

Your wisdom has a gaping hole in it. Our kid (sorry, dd's doesn't work for me yet...maybe in a different adult forum) is verbally committed, but she is still as motivated about 18 Gold Nationals as she was when she played 12U. She's just more mature about it as she is 4 years older. In some ways, we are too. So while the goal is to get looked at by colleges, that is only part of the season. If winning isn't exciting or doesn't matter, then why play? Even in the college looks the kids go all out even if the final score doesn't mean jack. So in the college look environment, the atmosphere is a bit different and the stakes are different. This spring, when qualifying for the big show, the atmosphere will be the same as it always has been...just competition that has craploads of talent and college bound kids.

And to think that there are not parents looking around the corner at other teams/parents at the 18U level, you must have your eyes shut and some Bose noise cancelling head phones on. Send those bad boys my way, I could use them on the plane.

I personally am just as excited about watching our 12U play as I was the first time around.

You should be just as excited for your 12 yr old. I never said not to be. What I said was you will look at things very differently when you kid is older. I am sure you have seen what really matters now that you have a kid that has verballed (Congrats). I know with both mine having offers and more visits to go to, my thoughts about how I worried about this and that and ranted at 10U and 12U was crazy. I used to get caught up in who was the best in Houston, Cen TX and N Tx just like many others. You should always be proud of your kids but trust me its not about trophies, medals and T shirts. If its only about winning and not growing as person and athlete go out and play the weakest tournaments and bring home a prize. I say from experience that the goal of winning at 10U and 12U should not be the main focus. I was that guy. I was that coach and looking back it was a Joke.

Good times. I still talk to parents (sometimes not intentionally...captive audience situation) that cannot stop talking about how good their team is and how awesome their kid is and how she straightened the leaning tower, solved world hunger, gave 10,000 teddy bears to UNICEF and hit 48 home runs in two days against the wind with only one functional eye due to the dust and how their team is going to win the Intergalactic Title and that the team from Nurumbus would have better luck dropping turds on command than they would bunts and how the they won't possibly lose a game as long as her daughter pitches, unless of course the assistant coach is calling pitches because he doesn't know how she pitches and how she's had 18 offers from professional teams, including cricket clubs and how the White House might hire her to pitch muffins to the mass of laid off workers sitting outside...

Anyway, carry on...

Has anyone here ever attempted an RPI type ranking based on tournament results? That would be interesting.

Slapper, The more you talk the deeper you dig the hole. I will say it again. IT MAY BE TIME TO MOVE ON TO 16U AND LEAVE US 12U TEAMS ALONE.

I can't beleive that you 12U types are letting this thread die. You all are disappointing me

What's the latest?
Who stole who?
Who folded?
Who's about to fold?
Who's over rated? 12U is nothing without the hype

Let's hear it!
Sometimes too much to drink is barely enough.
