1998 ~10U~ Houston Metro top 10 {R.I.P 08-04-2009}

by hookem » Tue Jun 02, 2009 7:13 am

TPS has dominated 10U in the Houston area for 3 of the past 4 years. TPS95 (7th ASA Nationals in 06), TPS97 (5th ASA Nationals 08), and TPS98(more than likely a Top 10 team at ASA Nationals). 95 and 98 are doing it with strong pitching, 97 hit like no other 10U team I have seen. TPS99 and TPS00 seemed to be doing things right.

TPS 97 Broke up and went their separate ways, I don't know about the others.

Thanks to the Lady Stros for a great tournament this past weekend. They did a great job hosting, kept it moving and the fields were in great shape. I hope they came out well $$
So where is everyone heading to next, Baytown this weekend??

Tps 97 is still around but all new faces just the name. I haven't seen TPS95 at all. So it's been mentioned a few times on here but I'm curious is Kaos folding or is that just the perception that most folks have. I know they are not ontrack like alot of use thought they might have been but are they going to be folding?

I'm sorry to hear that :!: I guess they didn't play this weekend in El Franco :?: It's a shame for those girls that jumped ship 3 months ago from some solid teams. I'm sure a few will find a home quickly. I would like to go on record that I predicted this as did quite a few of you and caught a lot of heat for it at the time. The girls are all great players but their parent's egos on that team doomed it from the get go. Not to mention the burned bridges. Good luck to the girls finding a new home quickly.

I hear ya. We had a couple of our girls leave us during fallball and after a couple of teams later ended up with kaos. Like you said...good kids but the parents ruined it for them. They would get upset cause their daughters weren't getting enough pitching time or upset cause when they weren't pitching they weren't always in the in field. The grass isn't always greener on the other side. Every tournament we saw them with their new teams they were either in the outfield or riding the bench. It really brought those girls down. Now they are begging to go back to other teams or trying out for 99's. SAD.

Kaos, is a good program Burt is a class act guy, it is not easy to be able to control everything that goes on at each age group with a multiple age group organization. That said, it is tuff enough to control one or two team organization. The fact is that it is hard to put good talent on a roster and keep it together. At this age parents are not always realistic of the capabilities of there kid. Parents usually expect if they are paying to play on a travel ball team they are guarantied their kid is playing every game in the field. In my opinion coaches should let each and every parent and player know that they are paying for practice and instruction, and game time is earned not guarantied. Keeping your position depends on your effort and your attitude and your abilities. Every position is open week to week and game to game with in the team. Open communication with parents and players with the understanding what's best for the player to grow is the goal. This is why coaches that are keeping rosters together have experience with communication with parents and players and have the girls best interest in mind. 8-)

Yeah I hate to hear it when teams don’t survive a season. Do yall have a problem with girls leaving teams after fall ball is over? How many teams require a commitment for the entire year (fall and spring)? Did everyone have a try out after fall ball? I bet most teams did not. Do you guys think teams should have try outs when the fall is over? This would let parents leave without question and/or let coaches cut kids by “not making the team” :?:

Hammer touched on communication; let’s see what that brings up. :lol:

I believe in the 2 tryout mentality. We are uniquie in that we have roughly 12 months of softball weather. While we are 3-4 tourney into a new year most northern teams are still practicing in pole barns and have'nt seen a dirt field in. 4-5 months. Communication is the key as Hammer said. The problem is that too few parents can sit back and let the coaches coach and if you are losing and their daughter is sitting or not pitching forget about it.
